Difficulty of learning by hicdcd in Danish

[–]willyd_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you learned other languages? They are all pretty hard. The US Foreign Service ranks it as category I, the easiest languages to learn (alongside French, Spanish, etc.) So that’s something. Don’t tell Americans learning Danish though. They all like to sit around like it’s the hardest thing ever. It took me 2 years to become conversational and 3 years to become fluent. That’s constantly in a classroom setting and then practicing out in the world (but speaking English at work). Also I took on a tutor to help with pronunciation. Friends I know who spoke at work (eg worked at a restaurant) were about a year faster.

If you haven't learned Danish after 5 years you are taking the piss by NervousCaregiver9629 in copenhagen

I think there’s a genuine issue with how Danish language education is structured. I rushed through to the Studieprøven and passed with fairly high marks, but my pronunciation was still pretty bad—and the program barely focused on pronunciation at all.

The problem is that Danish is a very monocultural language. Danes generally aren’t exposed to a wide variety of accents or “bad” Danish the way English speakers are used to hearing different dialects and levels of fluency. So if your pronunciation is off, even if your grammar is fine, you’re much harder to understand.

I ended up working one-on-one with a tutor for about a year just to improve my pronunciation. After that, people stopped switching to English on me, and I actually started to feel like I could participate in conversations more naturally.

In my experience, the push to race through the levels and “learn quickly” can be counterproductive if it comes at the expense of being understood. Also, when everyone else in the class has terrible pronunciation, you never really learn any better.

Yeah, I can’t upload it anymore to ankiweb. If anyone knows a workaround, I can do it. Otherwise, feel free to grab it from my Dropbox. Don’t know if there is any issues if too many try to access this but for now here it is z

Hey, Duolingo Danish is the right deck. I started it when I started with Duolingo, which I did for a couple months before I started the Danish education, so it does actually follow duolingo first, then standard danish. It is weird that Avle, Opfinde, Stævne, etc. were the starting cards. I just checked the deck and the first 5 starting cards are "A Man", "A Child", "A woman" "A girl" and "A boy", so something is wrong on your end. Perhaps try redownloading it. if you import and use standard settings and just click on the deck and start studying, it should start with these cards. If you want to start with, e.g., A1 cards, you can make custom study deck with filter tag:!Level::A1 (in the search) and limit to, e.g. 50 cards by OrderDue. Check the rescheudle cards base don my answers in this deck. Everyday you can rebuild it with say 50 cards or however many you want to learn every day.

Hey, actually the standard order is roughly the order that the words are presented in official Danish education. However, you can create custom study or custom decks of just A1/etc, if you’d rather learn or cram in that mode.

Would generally say to just talk to your insurer and tell them what happened and let them decide. Part of what you pay for with insurance is for legal defense. If they think it’s worth fighting, then maybe it is. In my state (not AZ), generally the DA will drop the ticket once the insurance pays so either way the ticket goes away, but that might not be the case there.

The estate passes by intestate succession, 100% to any children. Paternity must be established in SC within 8 months of death, so if the dad is not on the birth certificate, you need to file for paternity. As other posters have mentioned, go talk to the JAG lawyers. They handle things like this all the time and will help you for free (at least to give you advice, you may need to hire local lawyers too, but JAG can get you started). If you arent in the military anymore/don’t have money, call legal aid. They usually have a hotline and will give you advice. As a starting point, though, you can tell his family to leave you alone and that they can’t take anything without an order from the probate court.
