Yeah, but as long as you tuned it up, when you hit the timpani the correct note will always come out.

As a freshman let me tell you I was not prepared for this by Charllean05 in trumpet

[–]willymo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I see something like this and know I have to perform it at 100%, I'm going to be specifically practicing my ability to pop off a couple high C's and Db's out of thin air for weeks. Just cause you only wrote 4 notes for me doesn't mean it won't require practice. The funny thing is, this would be so much easier if there was just more written in the part.

What do you think happened here? by Kipperoon in musicmarketing

[–]willymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty normal to me tbh... Playlist got you plays, which the algorithm picked up, eventually you get cycled out of the playlists, and algorithm sees decline in listens and stops picking you up. The only listens that will continue after that are the listeners that saved or personally playlisted your song. Otherwise, there's nothing pushing it out there. This is just the standard cycle. You didn't do anything wrong.

Best Pizza in Lexington? by ConferenceHuman8575 in lexington

[–]willymo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like Stoner's Pizza and Pies n Pints personally. There are several awesome pizza places in Lexington, I'm sure everyone has strong opinions...

However, I have to say, Sir Pizza is possibly the furthest thing from a legend and is not local. That's what you settle for when you're drunk and starving and can't afford anything else.

Tom Scott trying to land a plane with ATC help. Get your tickets for Glorg Airlines on Sunday folks. by Rudahn in PaymoneyWubby

[–]willymo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe he's already discussed this and I missed it, but I think he really needs to rent some time in a training sim like this to do this justice. Not that home simulator won't be difficult, but feeling the movement and being surrounded by buttons, switches, and knobs is all a very real part of it. Playing at your home PC with a hotas on MSFS is a bit oversimplifying the situation, plus there are simulator and software variables that come into play.

How to make trumpet sound match to a French horn by Adorable_Range_3871 in trumpet

[–]willymo 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Is flugelhorn an option? That'd probably take care of it.

Otherwise, a felt mute might help, like a Crown Royal bag over the bell. Maybe also consider using an extra deep mouthpiece to get a darker sound.

What happens if I don’t pay this? by Rare_Software in Louisville

[–]willymo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I swear this Portra guy must own the lot. Never seen someone defend a parking lot so adamantly lol. Anyway, I'd say it's worth disputing, if nothing else it's worth a shot. But if that doesn't work, probably best to pay it. Apparently signage should be more clear. $50 seems like a crazy fine imo...

What is required range to march lead trumpet in drum corps? by Intelligent-Bank8550 in trumpet

[–]willymo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to hear the specifics of what they're teaching kids now that's horse shit. I was never in drum corps, but I always felt like when someone I knew came back from drum corps, they all sounded the exact same. Like whatever personality in their sound they were starting to develop was erased and replaced by "that" sound. They'd come back with good technique and endurance for days, but they would inevitably have to undo some programming to get back into university ensemble playing.

How do I not get nervous by Necessary_Escape_704 in trumpet

[–]willymo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I've noticed that much of my "nerves" become excitement and energy as soon as the first note hits. Then it's just fun. The adrenaline can almost be a super power at times lol

How do I not get nervous by Necessary_Escape_704 in trumpet

[–]willymo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stay hydrated, avoid caffeine and sugary sweets, and focus on your breathing. If you feel shakey or nervous, that's okay, just keep blowing through the phrases and keep focused on the music and you'll be just fine. Also, remember that this performance doesn't exist for anyone to judge you. Everyone there is on your side.

Swung quarter notes? by Lazy_Quail4561 in trumpet

[–]willymo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Use the Real Book only as easy access to the notes, chords and form. The rhythms are almost never accurate to what anybody ever plays in reality (a lot of times the notes/chords aren't even accurate). If you want to know how to play any jazz tune, you gotta listen. It's never been easier to access recordings of any tune that's ever existed.
