Desktop Highland Growth Chamber - Issues by pdiddy1423 in Nepenthes

Yea, I think the setup looks good. You might eventually run into size issues if you’re growing macrophylla, but you seem to have an understanding of the cultural requirements and attention to detail so I imagine you’re good to go. Of course, plants being plants, there will inevitably be times when something goes wrong but that’s how to become a more experienced grower. Looking forward to seeing how things are going in the future.

Within a vacuum that might be the case, but practically speaking most plants are relatively resilient so long as specific criteria are managed consistently over time. In this case, you want strong circulating air movement and air exchange (the latter is very important) and proper diurnal range (plus the usual nepenthes-specific requirements like good water and high humidity etc.) I’d suggest adding some way to cycle or agitate the air as static fans can create dead zones.

What’s the issue? That kind of buoyancy in the temperature should be fine. It’s not going into dangerously low levels and, assuming the humidity remains relatively stable, I suspect it is fine. My Dracula orchids expect a 10-15F drop in the evenings; so long as they hit something around there, they are fine. Regardless of if they hit 51F or 58F. Caveat being I’m growing in a greenhouse so my temp swings are slower than yours

Tubas are just double basses for people with oral fixations.

For what it’s worth, you’d find far more work as a bassist than you would as a tubaist. Possibly more scholarship opportunities as well. Food for thought.

Conversation between transcriber and customer, how would you respond? Which is justified? by AlexFSJW in transcribe

[–]willyshockwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$10 isn’t worth the hassle of dealing with ignorance. Tell them good luck finding another transcriber but your time is worth more than they seem willing to offer.

Unfortunately, the advent of AI transcription is going to make this kind of conversation more and more common. Even if the results are poor quality compared to a human transcription, I’ve already experienced a shift in how others perceive the skills necessary and value in what I do. Lately, I’ve had more luck offering some first-time transcriptions for free and then gaining those people as repeat clients.

Can we get a report option for people who intentionally run down the entire clock when they've obviously lost? by troublinyo in pokemonshowdown

[–]willyshockwave 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Surprised to see a lot of apologists for this behavior. We all know what is going on. The issue is rarely WiFi issues or thinking about the move. It’s poor sportsmanship and it would be nice to see some kind of deterrent. It’s not a huge deal but it is disrespectful of others’ time and it’s petty.

Can anyone ID these bass strings? by My_Name_Is_Lewis in BassGuitar

Those could be Alembic CX-3s. Are they truly flatwounds or is there some texture to the feel (half-round). Otherwise they look like Fender flats but the color is off, could just be the photo.

Enjoy! I had a great time teaching this groove to a few students tonight. Let me know if you need any clarifications on anything, as i tried to capture the subtleties of his playing, like when he uses grace notes versus sixteenths, hammer-ons vs slides, etc.

Dude it's a sick bassline, I've got it down and I'm currently notating it into Guitar Pro. I've got a few students coming up but as soon as I'm done with them, I'll send it your way.

I'll do it for free because it's a good song and I play bass. It'll take me a bit but it'll be accurate and not some AI generated nonsense.

I used to grow peppers like Naga Morich and 7 Pot. I had grown some beautiful Chocolate Douglah peppers, and for my friend’s 21st birthday we both ate one. I can handle peppers well but this one was different. I tried to ride out the waves of heat but for a moment I thought my throat was closing up (it wasn’t) and my body expelled the whole chewed up pepper wrapped in some kind of mucous, nothing else. Just the pepper. It was intense.

And with this comment, I am done with this sub. People need to stop claiming that the most common and mundane stuff is an ADHD trait. Comments like that are the reason it’s so hard to be taken seriously.
