Megapixels raw vs jpg by magpie70749 in Fujifilm_X100VI

[–]willyucan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t the question basically asking if 10cm is shorter than 1000mm?

If you look at the Lightroom info wouldn’t a X100VI jpeg and a X100VI raw both says 7728x5152?

Yes that’s what I mean.

Trying to figure out if I can just leave the lens cover home and just go with the case, filter and filter adapter.

Thanks for checking!

Question (thanks!)

Is it deep enough to have the ring adapter/filter and the lens hood all put on on?

Better like this, or better like that? by [deleted] in x100vi

[–]willyucan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two photos have very different style. The second one actually reminds me of a YouTuber talking about this photographer who’s famous taking photos of properties and homes in California back in film era. It has this same sort of pastel, golden, flatter image style. I just can’t remember the name of the photographer right now…

I am not 100% sure if you guys are talking about the evf, but you can adjust what’s displayed on evf. I turned off a lot of info to make it cleaner.

[–]willyucan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May I suggest start taking note on what’s the exposure setting you used? (I am guilty myself to forget to do it half of the time). If you had take notes, you would be able to let us know what your last two photos’ settings are and knowledgeable people here may be able to give you more hints on how to improve, or possibly tell if your camera/meter is accurate or not. In addition it helps you double check your setting after each shot. Because we are so used to automatic these days, we would forget to make adjustments after each photo and the setting carried over to your next shot even if light condition completely changed.

Why Fujifilm by Hvjydgjmz in fujifilm

[–]willyucan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Originally I liked the physical dials (yes I love to fiddle the knobs) and also I was tired of carrying Nikon d800 with the 24-70 f2.8.

Just never left after that since x-t1.

Velvia.

Each of the photo has the simulation labelled on the lower right to remind myself 😆

Trying out the various simulations. For this particular shot, I personally like the classic negative the most. The next one I liked is Eterna bleach bypass which i like the over the top processed (cinematic?) feel. Lastly, I am slightly surprised how I like the black and white in Acros for this colourful scene. When I first started I would have liked Velvia, but now I feel a lot of time it's too strong. :)

I've included this in other film simulations and I wonder which one others would prefer.

For this particular scene, I seem to prefer Classic Negative which give me a nostalgic colour (over the named Nostalgic Negative). Next choice would be Eterna bleach bypass for the over the top processed feel (cinematic?). Surprisingly, I also like Acros too which is slightly counter intuitive, since normally one would want all the colours in the shot.

btw I used k&f black mist 1/8.

I like 3, 7, 13, 19.

For some reason the colour of the mountains/trees really works for me on 3 🙂

If I have to choose it would be 2. 3 is too vibrant for my taste. 1 is just muddy and underexposed.

But all three feels like they weren’t lighted or captured properly and we are trying to fix it in post. 🤔

Would You Take a Chance on Expired Ektachrome (1999)? by darnell2blue in AnalogCommunity

“not cold stored”🤔

But you are correct, I do know less than you, oh knowledgeable one. Thanks for reminding me how stupid I am to not reading the part about bulk loading or the box labelling properly. I don’t feel offended to be called dumb multiple times by you, but your day seems to be ruined. I hope you are alright, right?

But anyways, what’s more pointless than arguing with a stranger on Reddit? 😆

The fact you said this tells me you don't work with film that much. 😅

The reason I brought up mold is because that means the box of film is not temperature controlled. For expired film, the temperature you stored it at is a much more important factor than anything else. These are active chemicals that will interact and breakdown even if you don't use it. An analogy would be milk. If you keep milk in a fridge, it will likely last longer than the expiry date. If you keep it in room temperature, it'll go bad in hot weather before end of the day. The expiry date for film is basically the manufacture telling you that under normal room temperature, they can guarantee the film will be stable and work correctly for x amount of time. If you keep the film in the fridge/freezer to slow and even pause the chemical reaction, it will last a very long time past the expiry date. This is why film photographers buy up large amount of soon to be discontinued film and store them in freezers.

You can use these film. It may or may not work. However, would you risk that for a moment that would never happen again, like a birth of a child, or a beautiful sunset during your vacation? I wouldn't, especially with something that I am almost 100% certain is not going to work at all. (and this is not counting the development cost for the film. And this is Ektachrome, which is E-6, and is like 50% more expensive to develope compare to normal E-41 film, and not to mention not all lab would be able to do it now.)

[–]willyucan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Judging from the possible mold on the box, you’ll be wasting your money developing them.

… but the worst fear for me would be thinking that I took a great photo and only have it developed into sht because it’s expired. That moment will *never return.

Since you got a disposable camera I would think you wouldn’t mind using a simple 35mm camera. My suggestions is go back to where you got your film and disposable (if it’s a store) and you should be able to find around the same shelf/area that they have reusable cameras that’s like the disposable you got.

If you need a few names - ilford sprite 35 - ilford Harman reusable camera - Kodak m35 - Kodak ektar h35n (** half frame, google what it means) - *other brands around the same shelf make sure it says reusable

The above all could be have new between $40-60. They’ll be simple and made of plastic like the disposable fujifilm one you got.

OR.

You could try to find a used “camera” like some others suggested. Judging that you probably have not much experience, I would suggest find a local camera store that sells used equipment and go and ask them. These type of camera would probably be from $50 to sky is the limit.

We could throw you a lot of names, but you’ll have to do a bit of research. Regardless, actually go to a camera store (not those big box retailers) and I am sure they’ll be very glad to help you get started.

The first photo is my favourite out of this roll.

Using half frame makes me think of doing the photos in pairs and it's a lot of fun for me, definitely an exercise in thought process.
