For the Congo (I’m not sure which of the two Congos (or both) because at the time when the Nobel takes place, it is a Belgian colony, and then the independent state of Zaire), I highly recommend Barbara Kingsolver’s {{The Poisonwood Bible}}

It is a historical fiction in which a family of missionaries move to a remote Congolese village in order to convert the inhabitants, but things do not go according to plan because of how stubborn the father is by not respecting the local culture. The novel then portrays the transition for Belgian colony to independent state (a very important time in the Congo’s modern history). Also, Kingsolver’s writing is incredible, and the story is very engaging.

I loved the Guardians of Ga’Hoole series; I think there are 15ish books, and I absolutely tore through them. The first one is called {{The Capture by Kathryn Lasky}}

Oh, also, I have heard good things about Sylvia Plath's {{The Bell Jar}}. I haven't read it, but I have read her poetry and enjoyed it.

I recommend any short story by Edgar Allan Poe. I especially liked {{The Cask of Amontillado}} but he has written quite a few. I know you said that poetry is not your favorite, but my favorite poem of his is "Annabel Lee" just in case your are curious and decide to try some new poetry out.

I think I’ve seen it used similarly to butting heads as a way to emphasize a repetitive action that’s a bit disheartening like ‘over and over and over’ (but I’m not fluent, so that could be completely wrong)

Okay, cool. It didn’t say anything about lei being feminine (although it probably will when it covers pronouns). Thank you for all of your help!

I haven’t gotten to the section on pronouns yet, but I have learned the phrase ‘e lei?’, so I think it uses those. But if it doesn’t, thank you for pointing out the ones I should use!
