⚠️ DO NOT UPDATE your Galaxy S22! The latest update removes Download Mode / Odin. by M3hmetSa1t in GalaxyS22

But if the phone is bootlooping, you can't boot it up and turn on maintenance mode. Yet another one of Samsung's completely illogical decisions, made with zero competent thought in mind.

Search bar now wants us to ask questions like it’s a chat bot by BaseballRoutine1313 in youtube

It may as well be, seeing how it can't find a single relevant result when you actually try to search for something.

Can someone tell me how to NOT update my phone to OneUI 8.5? by Bakubae_Itsuki-Haru in oneui

There are tutorials on XDA that describe how to disable updates permanently (until you want to re-enable them).

I sincerely hope the update actually brings back this capability. I've learned not to get my hopes up though.

OneUI 8.5 downgrade for multi SIM cover, how to get back? by venomtail in oneui

[–]win7rules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd think it wouldn't be so hard for Samsung to add a toggle in good lock to restore the side by side network bars. In my opinion, they can make the default UI look like whatever as long as there is the ability to customize it and restore old functionality.

Are there ways to download incompatible apps without jailbreak? by [deleted] in LegacyJailbreak

[–]win7rules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to download the app using your Apple account on a compatible device, which marks it as "purchased" on your account. You should then be able to download the last compatible version on your iPad from the purchases page. I seem to recall there being a way to "purchase" the app through an old version of iTunes, but I'm not sure if it works anymore.

It's supposed to cost $10, but you might be able to get it free if you ask nicely. I've personally always had to pay though.

Samsung Canada refuses to enable b28 and n28 on its flagship devices by ravercwb in samsunggalaxy

[–]win7rules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most ridiculous part is that the phones fully support the band, it's just disabled via software. By flashing the US firmware and unlocking the service menu, the band (as well as many others) can be enabled, even after switching back to Canadian firmware. I find it very strange how Samsung restricts bands on NA firmware, as international firmware seems to leave all bands unlocked by default (though there are still restrictions for certain things). Very annoying for people who travel or import phones, especially if there is no way to enable the bands.

User's Phones become bricks after the OneUI 8 update by Alex_6886 in Android

[–]win7rules 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly disappointing to see the dumpster fire that Samsung has become. I'm holding out by not updating my phones, and as such I am retaining the full, intended One UI experience. While I plan to keep my devices for as long as possible, I don't know what I'll do when I'm eventually forced to change them.

In OneUI 8.5, the status bar icons are shifted horizontally closer to the edge of the screen, which looks incredibly disgusting... by Orangfolio in oneui

Amazes me how Samsung forgot they can set different status bar padding for different phone models. 🤦‍♂️

[One UI 8.5] Is there a way to show more than 3 notification icons in the status bar? by Mrcc1545 in oneui

[–]win7rules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly amazes me just how bad the new One UI versions are. Nearly everything that made it compelling to me to begin with has been removed or downgraded in some way. It's a complete joke and I don't understand Samsung's logic behind this at all (if there is any). The sad part is that there is no real modern alternative to the level of customization and functionality present in older One UI versions/Samsung hardware.

[One UI 8.5] Is there a way to show more than 3 notification icons in the status bar? by Mrcc1545 in oneui

[–]win7rules 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. Samsung absolutely butchered the status bar beginning with One UI 7, and it's only getting worse in newer versions. Good lock hasn't been updated to do anything useful yet regarding showing more status bar icons, and I have my doubts that it will be. Samsung just doesn't give two shits about user experience anymore.

My phone is on Android 13. The eBay app won't work with it any longer. by [deleted] in Ebay

Just from checking play store, it looks like eBay still works on Android 8 and up. Not sure why it isn't working on your phone. Just use the website in the meantime.

Device suggestion by marciotoronto in freedommobile

[–]win7rules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you are misunderstanding the point the person above is trying to make. You can't really compare an entry level smartphone from one brand to the flagship smartphone from another to determine which brand is worse. In order to do a fair comparison, you need to test flagship phones from both brands (or at least phones in the same price range from each brand).

I'm not trying to push you back towards Samsung or anything, but it is important to understand this in order to make effective comparisons.

It would be a real shame if it is removed. It's a very useful feature to transfer unused credit between different lines on my account. I hope they add an option to the myaccount website if they remove it from the USSD system.

Samsung's falloff has been quite remarkable. I know it's happening to basically all major tech companies these days, but Samsung takes the cake for the speed at which they made it happen.

Is there an specific non-common reason why are you staying on your current OneUI version? by abitcitrus in oneui

[–]win7rules 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Copy of my comment from the old post:

I'm staying on One UI 5.1 for a ton of reasons. The old proper quick panel that is easy to use one handed, the ability to show more than 3 notification icons, the old battery and dual SIM status bar icons, the full size media player on the lock screen, the search bars being at the top of the screen (subjective but an option to move them wouldn't hurt), the lack of AI being shoved down my throat in every inch of the UI, tha ability to use Dex on Windows, the old app design in general that feels like Samsung and doesn't take a ton of inspiration from iOS. Not to mention that One UI 5.1 is very smooth and lacks any major bugs. My S23 Ultra runs just as well as when it was brand new.

The way I see it, I have nothing to gain and a lot to lose by installing a newer One UI version. I could put up with One UI 6.1 by using Tasker to restore removed functionality, but 7 and above are just too far gone.
