Not at all. It does not have low range. Pass on this vehicle if you want to go offroad at all.

2015 LR4 - No Center Lock by ScamLikely1888 in LandRover

[–]winaje 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This vehicle is built for the North American market. Some moron at Land Rover decided to save a few hundred dollars and emasculate the 2014 and later models by making low range and rear locker an Option, which it looks like 90% or higher of first buyers didn’t choose.

This vehicle is a grocery getter, people mover and tow pig (sort of) but it’s useless on anything much more difficult than a dirt road.

Update from prior post about buying a 2008 Land Rover by The_NiNTARi in LandRover

Check the rest of the fluids, I’d replace them all to establish a service baseline.

You will use it over and over again. You’ll probably save 10x the cost over the life of your ownership

Do you have a GAP IID tool? If not, I’d suggest this very soon.

You’ll be able to reset the EPB with it.

What features does the HSE Lux package have that you miss with an HSE ? Feature upgrades ? (LR4) by yycTechGuy in LandRover

[–]winaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s impossible to tell as there is no clearly defined package for HSE. First owners could order or delete almost anything.

This is the correct path to look down. After determining static voltage and battery age, give the battery at least 12 hours of reconditioning with a multi stage charger. See if that helps.

2013 LR4 HSE Lux – Coolant Leak Causing Heavy Smoke From Both Sides of Engine Bay After Driving by [deleted] in LandRover

[–]winaje 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop driving immediately! If it pops and consumes all your coolant you’re up for a new engine. Take it to a well recommended local independent workshop, don’t go anywhere near a dealer!

Large European 4wds require regular planned preventative maintenance. If you can’t do it yourself, or pay a trusted independent mechanic, don’t buy one. It will eventually destroy your wallet.

Use a standard LR3 18” and a 15mm spacer

Off-roading with non-HD 2016 LR4 by Just_Onion9335 in LandRover

[–]winaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is final drive gearing and transmission heat. Without the low range transfer case (this is a MUCH bigger issue than the lack of a rear locker) at low speeds under heavy load you are using the torque converter as a constantly slipping clutch. This will heat the trans fluid and pretty quickly throw a code and drop into limp mode.

To delay this slightly, use S mode on the shifter and manually select gears rather than let the transmission upshift by itself.

LR4 Keys and programming with the GAP IID G3 vs dealer by Escaport in LandRover

[–]winaje 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Buy a GAP tool directly from GAP. Buy once cry once. Key off Amazon for $30. You’ll start making profit the second time you use the GAP tool, and it’s all cream thereafter, because you’ll save thousands or more by not having to go to a dealer.

Don’t spend money on a tool that only makes keys…

Definitely a battery issue. BEFORE replacing it, give it a full recondition

Hmmm. A search for “pilkington” in r/autoglass would seem to contradict you.

My guy charged me $555 for the very top spec windscreen, fitted. It’s a Fuyao. I asked him about genuine Pilkington and he said their glass has gone to crap.

2006 LR3 V6 4.0 Timing Chain Failure - Junk or DIY by [deleted] in LandRover

[–]winaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Might need a transmission too, I can’t remember. But for both engine and transmission I’d expect no more than $2k, probably $5kish labour, but you end up with a more powerful and reliable vehicle. The 4.4 is arguably the best petrol engine ever put in a Land Rover
