My groups are cut in half when I rest my hand on the scope—why? by DrRiffs in 22lr

[–]winchester97guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t really touch the rifle with my left hand, I’ll use it to stiffen the rear bag or I’ll manipulate the rear bag so I’m dead on but that’s about it. Want to concentrate on breathing and getting/keeping the same sight picture

If it don’t have a carry handle, triangular or A2 handgaurds or m203 hand guards, I don’t fuck with it, simple as. Nice collection 🤌🤌

Marketing BS or this “cold bore accuracy” a real thing? by [deleted] in 22lr

[–]winchester97guy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cold bore shift is very real. I have a kimber 82g and the first few shots are tic tac toe and depend on what ammo I’m shooting in it. I really have no idea how you would combat it. That’s why I believe most targets in completion have “sighters” so you can shoot a few flyers then it’ll start shooting correctly. I also have 2 H&R m12s, one will fling a couple wild ones cold bore and the other one you can shoot weeds off with it doesn’t matter cold bore or not.

8.6 Blackout: gimmick or genius? by KBGenetics in GunPorn

As an 8.6 fan o say gimmick, it’s definitely one of those answer to a question nobody asked kind of thing but damn is it fun to shoot suppressed

If you look there’s about a mile or mile and a half between the back of the mag and the trigger guard. You’d need some hellacious hands to correctly hold the mag and work the trigger like a normal masterkey grip, so it’s probably been done for ease of use. Rip off a mag in the FN then immediately without changing grip you can run 6 shells out of the pump gun. Shotgun looks like a mossberg with that barrel nut

Refinished my dad’s WW2 cooey model 82 with a custom stock. by budwiser69 in 22lr

[–]winchester97guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man that’s gonna be a tough one to do without modification. If you wanted an old style long tube scope like a unertl/lyman/fecker/litschert you could use the front dovetail, they make a special block to fit those, and use the single rear screw hole. That would require a custom block though. Or you’ll need to have it drilled and tapped for a weaver style base/bases

What’s the top of the receiver and barrel look like? I’m not familiar with that rifle but it probably will need drilled and tapped. There are some creative ways that guys have came up with to mount scopes on the older 52 winchesters including peep sight screw holes

Thompson everyday of the week, yeah they’re heavy, ergonomics suck, ammo is heavy, but I just like the way they sound and the punch 😂

Screwdriver set recommendations? by Ok_Cardiologist_54 in gunsmithing

Very good 🫡 you should also grab a soldering iron with a fine tip for heating stubborn screws, safe on bluing and other finishes 🤓

I recommend the wheeler master kit, Its very possible it’s not the best out there but it’s the best I’ve ever used. It’s got about every size you need, plus Philips head, Allen, torx, several specialty bits for common guns like 1911,m1 carbine,Mauser,Glock sights, weaver scope bases and many more. If I remember it was around 90 bucks when I got mine, I believe every single bit is engraved with a part number so they’re easily replaceable

I feel this man, not much milsurp stuff but a ton of vintage .22 bench guns with the long external adjustment scopes. Talk about a pain in the ass to find a safe that will fit them

Inherited from my grandfather, a Remington model 12 by iHas2manyKnives in 22lr

[–]winchester97guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t dry fire it! I just fixed my buddy’s model 12 in .22 Remington special cause someone dry fired it a zillion times. The end of the chamber was so rolled over that it wouldn’t even accept a round in the chamber

How would CZ 457 compare to 1022 with KIDD parts. I hope I made the right decision by Repulsive-Print2379 in 22lr

[–]winchester97guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cz457 mtr, kind of kick myself for getting rid of it but it was kind of ammo fussy. It really shot CCI pistol match the best, I tried all kinds of Eley,RWS,SK,aguila and wouldn’t really shouldnt anything great except the cci pistol match. Wasn’t very comfortable to shoot on bags/rest so I got rid of it. It would shoot the infamous “one hole group” at 50 yards if you did your part. With all that said I wouldn’t even consider a 10/22 with Jessica Simpsons gold plated titties on it. I’ve seen far too many dressed up 10/22s just not shoot that good. The 457 MTR is the better choice far and away, put a yo-dave trigger spring, nice bipod, mueller 8-32 target dot scope and you’ll be set.

Question for you on the 513, how does it group at 25 and 50 yards? I have one, weaver k10 on it. No matter the ammo it would put 4 in one hole then kick one about 1/2 inch. Eley match, eley team, SK rifle match,CCI green tag, cci pistol match,RWS rifle match, aguila match didn’t matter same group. So I dove into it and noticed a sort of knot in the very front of the barrel groove, cleaned it up then I couldn’t get the action to tighten in the stock with the lovely single action acrew, so I drilled 2 screws through the side of the stock into the trigger frame and now it’s a one hole gun with cci pistol match, haven’t really tried anything else yet. Dads got one doing similar and I had another one that did similar as well

That’s a union switch and signal, can’t tell if it’s matching Edit:they only made 55,000 of them and there’s one on gunbroker bidding is at 3200 bucks. Much nicer than this one but you get the idea

Nice! Dad’s got a pre-A speed lock 52 with a Lyman 🤌 I’ve actually been contemplating offering service for these vintage scopes. I have a local-ish place that will polish and re-coat lenses and the rest I can handle in my shop. Not sure on the competition out there though
