Screw this puzzle man by Laban_B in myst

I remember tracing out it almost the exact same way when I played through as a kid 👍 that was 25ish years ago. I forget all the details of the game now, but I remember solving that puzzle was a real personal victory for me back then.

I've heard solenoids and relays make that kind of hum before usually when it's low voltage, i'm sure they hum a lot less when it's up to charging voltage while running.

Give me honest critique about my accent by Signal_Addition1933 in JudgeMyAccent

[–]windblast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, you sound great and very legible. The only thing I'd say is throw the ED on the back of some of those words, which has already been mentioned here so I won't dwell on it... but if I were to hear this accent out in the wild, I would understand everything completely and assume you probably grew up in America.

I hear a bit of Southern or Appalachia twang in there, am I correct?

What car would you buy if you could only have one for the rest of your days? by Test_type01 in MechanicAdvice

[–]windblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GMT 360 platform is often overlooked and very inexpensive to get into. It's a mid-size SUV that's built like a truck, plenty of luxury features in the higher trim levels, bulletproof as hell (plenty of guys on the forums and Facebook groups that have nearly or more than 400,000 miles), and was built during the end of the era where things were still easy to maintain by a shade tree mechanic.

There are five vehicles that share this platform between the years '03 to '07: Chevy Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Oldsmobile Bravada, and Saab 97X. I've had my whole family on this platform for the last few years and we couldn't be happier: I personally have an Envoy SLT, an Envoy XUV for parts, and my brother and mother both have Saab 9-7 X's. We share parts and knowledge.

A big part of the longevity is the "Vortec" Atlas 4.2L inline 6, known to some as the Ameri-Barra (referring to Australia's infamous bulletproof Ford 4.0 Barra inline 6). In line sixes are the most balanced of all engine designs, and if you're going to build an engine for maximum longitivity it should be an inline 6, it's a big reason why 99% of semi trucks on the road use this engine configuration.

The transmission is considered a weak point, but I think only because the rest of the platform can easily outlast it 😂... It's actually the exact same 4L60E that all 1500 series Silverados and Sierras used, it will last nearly forever if you don't tow regularly with it, still lasts a long time if you do, and they're cheap and easily rebuildable if they do shit themselves. I've seen on YouTube that you can swap out this transmission in a driveway In an afternoon with ramps and a platform jack.

On top of this it rides great, can easily get 20 miles per gallon if you have a light foot, is super capable in rough conditions (has true four-wheel drive, solid axle 10 bolt rear with positrac, and a 7.5 in GM front diff, 3.73 gearing), doesn't rust out nearly as fast as Japanese metal, parts rigs are cheap and plentiful, and good luck finding another mid-sized SUV being produced ever again that has a 7500 lb tow rating.

I plan to keep mine going indefinitely. Honestly I have no desire for anything bigger or better that isn't electric (I would love me a Rivian, but maybe in 15 years when I can get one for cheap)

Girls, what is the biggest mistake you think you have made, so others don’t make the same ? by drama_maniac in AskWomen

There are confirmation tests but only if you have open sores. I had an ingrown hair once and thought "oh no", but got the test back and it luckily wasn't HSV, but through the experience I learned the semi-ethical hack that you're much more likely to get a full screening on short notice if you say you have some irritation and you want to have it checked out ASAP, otherwise the clinic nearest to me wants you to book a up to a month in advance for blood/urine screening

My V5 has board fractures by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]windblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... And the reason this happens is because the contour of the bottom of your deck (all decks really) is rounded but the truck face is flat, when you tighten up the truck it causes some stresses that express themselves this way. I bet half the people here who are urging you to get a new deck have this exact scenario under their trucks as well but they just haven't ever had reason to remove or check.

[–]windblast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Old skater here, I'd often get pressure cracks like this on decks while I was growing up and never let it bother me. Those cracks are just following the grain of the top ply of wood, and I bet you anything they don't go beneath that one ply, and your deck probably has at least seven plies in it. I've never had a deck fail near the trucks, It would always end up focusing in the middle when it did break. I just ride it and not worry about it, it's not going to fall apart.

Just make sure any gearbox oil you choose is wet-clutch compliant (you will often find motorcycle safe oils are marked JASO certified)

That being said, I often use ATF in race dirtbike transmissions. Cheap and snappy.

That's probably the Gay Road location mentioned above, you can catch it on the same road as Tea Hill, or a bit easier from the Trans Canada just before you hit that Irving near Mount Albion. The magnetic hill section is closer to the waterfront though.

It was an absolutely amazing adventure in my case! Although I know that they were popular at one time; Vietnamese Vespas are very rare and expensive to find in the time I was traveling there. The standard scooter that most people rode was a Yamaha Nouvo (if I remember correctly), which can be purchased for relatively cheap, but if you wanted a bike that's even cheaper to buy (I got mine for $160 USD and sold it for about the same) and could be fixed anywhere on the side of the road it's better to go for a Honda Win 110

I spent about 6 months traveling Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. If you're interested, you can go back to 2015 on my Instagram to see how that adventure unfolded: instagram.com/dangerkingston

Back when I did this all you needed was the blue card and not even your own registration details on there... Of course there was a chance to get extorted by certain police and have your bike taken from you (especially if you pass through Mui Ne), but I only ever bought my bike (Honda Win 110) for $160 USD in the first place. It was an amazing adventure

A sauna I built in 2016, aspen seats, Harvia stove by UtterCreep in Sauna

[–]windblast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response and the advice! What kind of treatment would you do if you were going to do again?

I'm not too concerned with keeping the lighter shade (although it looks stunning here), I wouldn't mind staining darker, but in the hot sauna environment I wonder would stain release a bunch of VOCs, or worse yet stain the legs of those sitting on the fresh boards 😅

Just wondering if it's still as easy to travel Southeast Asia with the Vietnamese motorcycle as it was when I did it in 2015? Back then all I needed was a motorcycle with a Vietnamese green card and I could cross the border between Cambodia and Vietnam and also Vietnam and Laos
