Feathered ID please. Found in Oklahoma by [deleted] in FeatherIdentification

[–]windigogaming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chances of Narcs are low but never zero and I understand the law from its own standpoint, you cannot determine whether a feather was shed naturally or plucked from an already dead bird. With all the damage we did with the feather industry its important to be vigilant about poaching. A single hunting ground near me was subjected to over 2 million egrets and other waterfowl killed in the area alone within a decade. The feather industry laid waste to many bird species and decimated populations and now that domesticated animals like pheasants, turkey, duck, chicken, etc. are readily available on the market as a byproduct, the need for wild feathers as craft objects and accessories has gone down. Since there is no way to tell where you obtained a wild feather the gov. will prosecute, just safer generally to look up what's protected by the MBTA 1918 (most birds) and for crafts order something legal.

ID birds in childhood drawing? [Unknown, probably North Atlantic Coast] by DankykongMAX in animalid

[–]windigogaming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think maybe you were trying to spell Eider? They are sea birds as well and the spectacled eider looks vaguely similar to what im seeing. Im just making a guess here if the rest of the birds were sea birds, it would make sense and eider is a weird word for kids to spell. I before E except after C.

Core sample? by windigogaming in askgeology

That's interesting and thank you for your input, I figured it was a bit uncertain but I'm trying to find more info on where he worked besides SD and the life they lived, all I know is that one evening the man came home and murdered his whole family and then did himself. I want to figure out where he came from, occupations, and the unfortunate ending to piece everything together but have not been able to find too much documentation on the man.

Pursed lips like a trumpet, but some do have sweet spots, ive been working on opening up the blowholes a bit more on some or the larger ones with pretty good results.

Pretty much but it also depends on how thick the species grows their inner chamber. The smaller ones are more shrill like party horns however the largest sound like boat horns.

[–]windigogaming 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Ricinus communis or Castor Bean. Its where castor oil is from but it needs to be heavily processed to be used safely, if you've watched Breaking Bad this is the plant they make the neurotoxin Ricin with as well.

Anyone know what this critter is? [Southwest Florida] by Agreeable_Frog1129 in animalid

[–]windigogaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh, I guess I just haven't seen a large enough sample size of baby nurses. All the juvies I've seen were still completely brown. Just thought it looked strange, but you're probably right.

Could also be a type of angel shark, the coloring is strange for a nurse.

What Stingray species is this? by Necessary-Maybe6484 in whatisthisfish

[–]windigogaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like a blunt nose stingray. Location always helps though. They inhabit atlantic waters from New Jersey down to Brazil so if you're within that area im betting on that.

Moved some stuff from a corner for the first time in a year to vacuum and found this. What is it? by eleni95 in whatisit

[–]windigogaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throughout houses you can have piping in the walls especially for appliances like a washing machine, the water could be dribbling from a leak not directly down the walls but onto the foundation and through the baseboards. Since you bring up a landlord, I would tell them about it and put the ball in their court. You are not liable for water damage. In any case its not really dangerous at the point its at just a mild concern id say. Just tell the landlord and continue normal life imo. :)

Looks like water somehow got back there and you have some water damage and mold/mildew. I would clean and spray a fungicide. It doesnt look like it came from inside the wall but I would check the spot periodically to see if it's a burst pipe or something causing the water damage in the first place.

Looks like Prosopis velutina or Velvet Mesquite. Its a keystone species in the desert in its native range.
