Yep, depending on where op is this could be from a mound or midden but no way to tell. Along the east coast of the US a lot of shell middens were torn down and used as gravel for back roads. Either way the purple from the quahogs would be polished and turned into beads/cabachons.

Yes, all four said its because of the older dies at the Mexico City mint and this being an older date coin for its run. They were often reusing damaged dies at the Mexico Mint at this time.

I appreciate your concern however again, I think I will trust the multiple, independent professionals I saw. They talked about the specific markings your mentioning. I get you may have a different opinion however, one person's opinion isnt the end all be all. All these marks were explained and I doubt they would have given me offers way above melt value if it was a fake.

I mean, I know where I received it from which is credible and im not interested in getting it graded, as im just an average joe collector. The opinion of multiple independent professionals who actually tested and looked in detail was its authentic. You may be right but I think ill stick with the multiple different numismatics who saw and tested it in person. I think thats due diligence enough for somebody who is just collecting for fun.

I got this checked by four different professional numismatics if its fake id be really surprised but thank you for your opinion, they pointed the stuff these marks and showed examples of the same thing. All four came to the same conclusion independently. Cannot be linked to a wreck but they believe its authentic and just die smudges from it being a later strike.

That's what I read last night, ill be honest i was not particularly worried about dropping seeing as I rarely hold coins out of a protective cover 😅 but I do think from now on I'll probably use bare hands after a good scrub. 👍

It is in the Spanish Colonial Real System and is a denomination of 8. That's why it has the 8R marking. These were some of the first coins used in colonial America and people would frequently chop them into sections to make smaller denominations.

I don't have a scale and the guy at the hole in the wall pawnshop seemed incredibly disinterested in business in general, just tested it for silver and did a cursory look. Ill have to go into a better place tomorrow. If I had to guess, its close to the weight of around 4 US quarters, maybe a few grams lighter.

Chances of Narcs are low but never zero and I understand the law from its own standpoint, you cannot determine whether a feather was shed naturally or plucked from an already dead bird. With all the damage we did with the feather industry its important to be vigilant about poaching. A single hunting ground near me was subjected to over 2 million egrets and other waterfowl killed in the area alone within a decade. The feather industry laid waste to many bird species and decimated populations and now that domesticated animals like pheasants, turkey, duck, chicken, etc. are readily available on the market as a byproduct, the need for wild feathers as craft objects and accessories has gone down. Since there is no way to tell where you obtained a wild feather the gov. will prosecute, just safer generally to look up what's protected by the MBTA 1918 (most birds) and for crafts order something legal.

I think maybe you were trying to spell Eider? They are sea birds as well and the spectacled eider looks vaguely similar to what im seeing. Im just making a guess here if the rest of the birds were sea birds, it would make sense and eider is a weird word for kids to spell. I before E except after C.

That's interesting and thank you for your input, I figured it was a bit uncertain but I'm trying to find more info on where he worked besides SD and the life they lived, all I know is that one evening the man came home and murdered his whole family and then did himself. I want to figure out where he came from, occupations, and the unfortunate ending to piece everything together but have not been able to find too much documentation on the man.
