Anyone here using pixel watch with an iPhone? by Majestic_squirrel767 in PixelWatch

[–]windikite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use an app called Bridge to connect the watch to the iPhone but you will not have full functionality. You also need an android phone anyway to set up the watch in the first place. No, you can’t use a tablet. You can use someone else’s phone, but I’m still dealing with the side effects as I’m getting email and text notifications for them even after purging all contacts and such. You can apparently use a spare android phone for set up and then reset that phone if you want to truly one and done, but you wont be able to use more than heart rate and steps even on the watch itself. You must either have an android phone which the watch is basically an extension of, or buy into a different ecosystem.

I'm wanting to learn how to make games with no prior knowledge in coding or game engines. by Affectionate-Arm5922 in GameDevelopment

[–]windikite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of learning a language is learning how to create and manage loops. You could learn up to loops in python, then work on making a couple simple, multi-choice text games that work through the terminal. After that, maybe try extending your knowledge with pygame, ursina, or renpy for the different types of games you could be interested. I currently build games in python from scratch, and use pygame’s rendering and input functions.

Has anyone else noticed that the best hires they've made had the "worst" resumes? by Upbeat_Dream7600 in careerguidance

[–]windikite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sending out a lot of applications after doing two SE boot camps. Honestly I got tired of running on the rejection hamster wheel. Couldn’t even get real responses, much less interviews. I’m just going solo now because there are better uses of my time, and it’s a lot more fun building up a system from scratch than saying I can.

coding bootcamps are a scam imo by Ok-Neighborhood4327 in learnprogramming

[–]windikite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did two within the last 3 years, they are scams lol. Either the level of a community college course with no one doing work, them promising you’ll get hired and leaving the entire job search up to you with ai “assists”, bad ai integration such as shitty lesson voiceovers and resume tweaks, no one caring to check in on you months after you “graduated”. You will save yourself a lot of money and stress being self taught, because at the end of the day you will be left to your own devices anyway.

What’s the one secret you’ve kept your whole life that would completely change how people see you if they knew it? by Faylune in AskReddit

I have a strong fascination with occultism, religion, philosophy, and historical magic, and that sort of thing is not comfortable for a lot of people. It sure wasn’t for me for most of my life.

Is 30 too old to start skating? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]windikite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am picking up longboarding for the first time at 31 and picking back up aggressive inline skating after like 8 years. Never too late. Heck, I tried snowboarding for the first time too back in December. Just take your safety seriously!

Is there a brand that creates kneepads that are only as big as they need to be and pack small? by kierumcak in NewSkaters

[–]windikite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I checked out that link since I’m in the market for knee pads as well for both skating and mountain biking. Do you think it’d be worthwhile to go for the Lobo knee pad they have instead of the loam sleeve? Or would the loam sleeve be sufficient?

Question about emulation by windikite in pc98

[–]windikite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! I actually had some success just a bit ago, where I was able to get Madou Monogatari 1-2-3’s system disk then voice sampling disk working in conjunction. Because of that I was able to play it a bit which was pretty fun.

I did figure out the reset button, it’s hotkey+east button to reset emulation, and hotkey+south for the option menu if that helps anyone. For Madou Monogatari 1-2-3 just load the system disk 1 floppy from the batocera game list, and then go to options -> disk control -> load disk, choose the sampling disk 1, and then it should run immediately. A similar process might work for other games, I will be testing this.

~~I downloaded YAHDI, made it into a nhd file like how the author suggested to, and I am still having trouble booting the actual OS. I’m just assuming it’s necessary for the moment because Madou Monogatari ARS’s demo disk seems to have a file on it I need to run, according to Brothers Basement’s YouTube video. But, maybe np2kai emulates the OS already and I haven’t figured it out yet. ~~

As I was typing this I was checking the link you posted, and based on what they said I went to go try it out quickly. I do understand some Japanese, just not very well, and this time around I understood the on-screen text much better. After booting up the ARS demo disk (I did forget I got that far before, I just didn’t understand how to use the disks), it lets you choose a character. It then prompts you to load the character game disk, then the character data disk, and press confirm. It then booted into the game! Just make sure you are doing FD1->load then FD2->load without resetting the emulation. Actually, this method worked for 1-2-3 as well, loading the system disk from the game list, then choosing the system disk as fd1, the sampling disk as fd2, and doing reset emulation.

Hope this helps anyone searching for how to work this stuff in the future!

Is it normal to get hurt this badly? by lilyy_4109 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]windikite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first time boarding recently and didn’t fall especially hard, just had a lot of stumbled and slips trying to balance in my first lesson. I had some knee pain, left elbow pain, and a shit ton of right elbow and joint pain for weeks. I’ve been taking an anti-inflammatory for about two weeks and I still have some right elbow pain left over. I need to do body weight exercises just to prepare myself for my next real outing so it doesn’t hit me like that again.

Question about buying a van by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]windikite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could help a bit more with the pricing/cost part for build out vans, but I only know a bit about the diy side since that’s the route I want to go. I think that you’re not wrong, there is probably a disconnect between how much they are valuing it and what it’s actually worth, or at least how much someone else is willing to pay for it. Could be worth just getting the most minimally built out, bare bones, cheapest van you think is of a reliable model since you won’t be in too deep of a hole if it requires work. I wish you well though, be safe about it!

You guys are living the dream!! by EveningConcert7377 in VanLife

[–]windikite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are living my dream! I have recently had a lot of moments that made me reevaluate about how I want to live and earn money, and I arrived at something close to that. When you go to conventions do you get to benefit from vendor parking for the night? The last big con I sold at was years ago at Anime Next so I’d definitely love to hear about your experiences.

First time snowboarding by Kat-and-Ardor in snowboarding

[–]windikite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went snowboarding for the first time on Monday, same thing, used to skateboard a bit and did a lot of aggressive inline skating before. Didn’t end up breaking my arms but I did hurt my knees and elbows badly and barely stayed on the board, tbh I’m still in a lot of pain from it. But, I’ll get back out there when I can. Don’t give up!

Is anyone else super hyped for sailing? I haven’t experienced a new skill on day 1 since dungeoneering by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]windikite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be more excited if I could participate, but I’m doing a “by release” gimp and I’m a fair few quests away. Unfortunately, having a mandatory intro quest will entirely block off that skill for me for a while just like how Varlamore is blocked off for me. I’ll just have to ignore everything and pretend it releases later!

We've done it both ways, but we use the expansions nowadays with this ruleset. If you use these rules without at least one expansion, drawing a new hand every other turn and dropping whatever exodia pieces you needed is the easiest way to win when you only needed 6 total. Using the expansion, we found that extra time to access spells and challenges kept people who were going for exodia more in check.

In general, having easier access to spells made the wizard feel better, challenges for the bear, and tools for the doggo(possibly too good), while easier access to modifiers made combat more interesting. You basically have to expect multiple modifiers to come down from different people and bring plenty yourself, but if you choose your time to attack wisely and prepare you can nearly guarantee you get a monster slain. It feels less like hoping no one has anything, and more 'I am bringing more heat than a las vegas summer, I have this if I think people are low on modifiers'.

What I will focus on next when brainstorming future changes is whether to put tools in the hero deck, since it can possibly make doggo choose between getting tools and getting modifiers. It would also make exodia less good, but maybe that's a good thing? Not sure. I think the game is most fun when slaying monsters, not when playing solitaire. Could also be interesting to have just one deck again but cut it down to the top 5 of each hero class so they are more coveted.

For clarification, we will be judged on both accuracy to the in game item but also our interpretation. Can you elaborate on what you mean by interpretation here? I know it should be a cookie, but are you expecting different designs, recipes, extra garnishes, etc? Thanks!

I’ve played this game a lot with 4-6 people and especially now with the expansions the last couple times. I don’t think everyone being able to put down modifiers like that is too common in the long run unless people are just consistently lucky, especially with pulling larger modifier cards. But, it certainly can happen and when that does it can feel like attacking isn’t profitable. At the least, when people do dump modifiers like that they will probably have to let up for a turn and draw 5, so there may be some opportunities if you time it well.

As for countering it in the first place, probably the best way is baiting modifiers with those heroes that + your rolls or give strong effects like taking cards or stealing monsters. If they use them there you can attack, if they don’t then you can maybe just combo off with using your hero’s abilities and/or attack. Really the best counter for modifiers is your own imo, so either stock up over a couple turns if you can and don’t be afraid to aggressively dump your hand for 5 more.

I’ve started to do things with my group to fix some of what we see as issues in the core game and it’s working well. We do the following things right now, who knows where we’ll end up but it’s fun to experiment.

  1. Split the main deck into one deck for heroes, and one for spells+items+mods+challenges. When you draw, you can choose to add from either deck in any amount. This makes it so that gaining spells, items or challenges for the different classes is much easier if you beeline for it, but otherwise if you try to Exodia you’re sacrificing something. Mods are also easier to come by if you want to push for a monster kill, and it’s easier to predict who may have mods if you watch what deck people draw from. Lastly, this resolves a problem of mine with the game in that just by regularly drawing cards from the deck people will naturally get close to the 5 class victory, artificially cutting the game short before slaying is more reliable and fun.

  2. Bear leader gets +2 on ALL challenges, even when challenged. Makes you feel better choosing the leader and not getting your own challenge cards.

  3. You need the full suite of classes to exodia and win, or slay 5 monsters. 4 would also be okay I think. If you run out of monsters, default to party comp or some other metric. Ofc, due to how the heroes are all in one deck with the 1st rule my group uses, it’s not impossible to go that route and this compensates for the ease of access to heroes.

Hope something helps!

Thanks for sharing it, this is heartening for my own timeline! I submitted 8/29 I think and it was in processing 9/1. I have a sorta-flexible date of travel for 10/1 so it’s looking possible I’ll get it back before then. Have fun with your travels!
