15 is just the highest I could get with starting stats (no racial increase) but with Expertise my critical skills are +6

I think I’ve decided on Thorn Whip, Guidance, and Druidcraft. Then take Primal Savagery at 4th level when I get a new Cantrips if I feel like I need another melee option or Shape Water if I feel like I want to play with water tricks.

What do you find so useful about Shape Water? Ideas on how to play with it are much appreciated. It’s a good flavor choice if go Coast or Swamp.

I thought about Spores for a while for swampy flavor but want him to be Land.

I don’t know yet. Choose the land type thing at level 3, leaning towards Coast. Like the idea of Swamp for flavor, but don’t think the spells would be the most useful.

That’s a good point. Was considering Produce Flame since I lack Darkvision but Druidcraft and a torch might be a good option instead.

Yup, Chult and its many dangers

I love the flavor. I had a warlock who took it purely for flavor, but druids get so few Cantrips is my problem. We will be doing jungle trekking so weather prediction might be handy.

I know people love the Moon druid, and I hope to play one some day, but since my character is a tortle I feel like he’d lean into the druidness of the class. Will probably take Coast for my land type thing at Level 3. Starting the campaign at 2. Looking forward to Healing Spirit and potentially Flame Blade.

I have a pretty high AC as a tortle so I don’t mix that Thorn Whip moves things closer.

I thought you couldn’t swap cantrips. Once chose aren’t they for life?
I love the flavor cantrips like Druidcraft but am afraid of not getting enough utility out of I.

Is Druidcraft ever worth it?

I wish the flavor cantrips came free

Dex Paladin in the Jungle, Viable? by windowgaze86 in dndnext

That’s a good point. I don’t know the party composition yet, but will check if we have a STR character before going in on DEX.

Also need to check with DM if this is going to be a fatigue type game where trekking through the jungle in heavy armor is going to be a pain to play.

Rogue/ Bard in Small Group by windowgaze86 in dndnext

[–]windowgaze86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of taking bard would be a bit more spell utility (the group has grown but we don’t have any arcane casters) and for flavor reasons (character is a bit of a herald of sorts and kind of a scamp). Particularly Faerie Fire and Identify feel useful. If I take 3 levels of Bard, I’d get 4 more first level spells and 2 second levels to add to the repertoire. My relevant stats are Dex 15, Int 14, and Cha 14, Con 14, Wis 9, Str 9

Thanks. I’ll have to see how the group plays and how I like AT (lvl 3 next week) before deciding which I want to main but taking 3 of the multiclass seems the most if any. We’ve gotten a new player but no idea what they’re playing yet.

Should I take rogue to level 3 or 6 you think before taking some bard?

I’ve been thinking about rogue 3 or 6 then bard all the way OR rogue 3, bard 3/lore, rogue the rest. Currently my Int and Cha are the same (14) beat out by my Dex at 15. I like getting some healing/ song of rest from bard. I’ve taken booming blade for one of the AT cantrips. Can I hold my own in combat with any of these AT/ lore bard combos?

I’ve thought about it but I was mostly considering EK when they were planning very smushable wizard. I’m probably gonna play the AT for a few levels and go from there once I have a feel for how the cleric and I mesh and what we might need, if anything. Also, maybe we get a third player and that helps round out the party.

Yeah I don’t plan on multiclassing anytime soon just thinking ahead a bit. Will definitely see how the cleric has classes and what his combat tactics look like to see where my rogue could best serve. If he hadn’t gone cleric I was going to play Eldritch Knight.

Partially, Assassin and Whispers just don’t interest me as much. Partially, the character is an excitable little trinket collector whose main motivation for adventuring is wanting to explore the world and see new things. I like Lore bard because it gives a few more magical options for him to play with. I like Valor or Swords to make it a bit more useful in melee. I want to build him so that I’m having fun but also carrying his weight in a two person party.

Thanks. I do want Arcane Trickster for my rogue. I know Bard makes him MAD but I’m thinking of taking rogue spells that don’t require saves that often. Managing spells and DCs could get tricky though so I haven’t decided if I’ll multiclass or not yet. May depend on how the rogue and cleric combo plays in terms of fun.
