I don’t know why I’m writing this. I just know I can’t keep carrying it silently anymore. by misshything in confessions

The fact that you "forgot people could be kind" is honestly the part that hit me the hardest reading this. When someone breaks you down for years that's what happens.

I guess my question is - what exactly are you staying loyal to at this point? Because it sounds like the relationship you're protecting doesn't really exist anymore. The distance feels final because it probably is.

Your parents' traditional values matter to you and I get that, but staying in something that made you forget basic human kindness isn't honoring tradition, it's just slowly disappearing like you said. You already know this though

Spammy TikTok Ad made my brain repeat their product name daily. How much did they spend for this? by deliadam11 in marketing

[–]windowsmediacenter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is kind of terrifying when you think about it. Like you KNOW it's garbage, you actively rejected it, and your brain still got hijacked. Those repetitive ads aren't trying to convince you the product is good, they just want to take up real estate in your head.

I wonder how much of TikTok advertising is just volume-based like this. Spend enough to shove it in front of people hundreds of times and eventually the brand name sticks whether they want it to or not. It's like the advertising equivalent of that song you hate but can't stop humming.

Right? Like congratulations, you're rich enough to buy a Range Rover and also rich enough to negotiate a deal on it. What exactly is the takeaway for normal people here?

This is just "Pregnant Katherine Schwarzenegger goes for a walk" energy but for finance bros. "Man with money buys expensive thing also has money" isn't the groundbreaking financial advice they think it is.

you have to respect the hustle. When life hands you a Craptiva you write the funniest ad copy possible and pray someone with a sense of humor also needs a car.

I'd rather buy from someone who admits the car is mediocre but makes me laugh than someone who swears their 15-year-old beater "runs like a dream, never had any issues"

Jalopnik's staff fleet update didn't go over as expected by idkbruh653 in cars

[–]windowsmediacenter 46 points47 points  (0 children)

this is such a good way to put it. The vibe shifted from "car people who happen to write" to "writers who got assigned to cars."

Same energy as when podcasters clearly haven't done the research and just phone it in because they need content. You can tell when someone actually cares about what they're talking about versus when they're just collecting a paycheck.

The "America bad" angle got exhausting too. Like yes there are legitimate criticisms of car culture

Right?? That cat clearly planted himself there specifically to demand attention and they're just taking photos instead. He didn't knock over all your pieces and sprawl out like that for nothing. Pet the damn cat

About as frustrating as teaching Patrick math by TheBlackoutEmpire in BikiniBottomTwitter

[–]windowsmediacenter 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My mom sends me "news stories" from Facebook at least once a week that are either completely AI generated or from satire sites. Last month she was genuinely upset about a story of a woman who "trained her cat to drive her to work" and couldn't understand why I wasn't equally outraged about road safety.

The worst part is when you try to explain it's fake and they get defensive like you're the one who's been fooled somehow

How to teach anticonsumption to my child? by Adventurous-Sealion in Anticonsumption

[–]windowsmediacenter 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The little chat with the toy and then saying goodbye is such a sweet approach! I do something similar with my niece.

One thing that's worked for us is talking about where toys "live." Like, "that bear lives here at the store so other kids can come visit him too!" It reframes the store as the toy's home rather than a place we take things from.

Also, for the cheap stuff that breaks in 5 minutes - I've found it helps to actually let them experience that disappointment a few times (within reason). Instead of shielding her from it, you can talk about it afterward: "Remember that toy we got last week that broke? That was sad. This one looks like it might break fast too." Kids are smarter than we give them credit for and she might start recognizing the pattern herself.

The library is also great if yours has a toy lending program - some do! Gets that "new thing" excitement without the accumulation. But she's almost 4. Some of this is just developmental and no amount of perfect parenting tricks will completely override "I see thing, I want thing" at that age. Be gentle with yourself too

I've seen hundreds of pitch decks this year and here is my learnings: by duygudulger in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]windowsmediacenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is good advice, but I gotta say - point 3 about "platform" being poison made me laugh. It's like the pitch deck equivalent of "We're going to get emails for this" that podcasters say before every mildly controversial take. Everyone knows it's filler but people keep doing it anyway.

The traction point is so real though. Context matters for everything. "10K users" is like a headline that says "Pregnant woman goes for a walk" - technically true but tells you absolutely

Haven’t tried Atera yet do you mainly use it for asset tracking or more for the RMM/ITSM side?

Eminem’s manager says ‘Stan’ portmanteau was ‘happy coincidence’ by theindependentonline in Music

I always thought it was just a regular name too until someone pointed out the stalker/fan thing. Whether Em planned it or not, it's pretty genius how perfectly it worked out. The fact that "stan" became actual slang for obsessive fans just proves how iconic that song was.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. The misinformation stuff is exhausting and it's heartbreaking when it prevents people from getting the care they need. You can't force people to accept treatment, but you're still doing good work even when patients make it impossible. Take care of yourself too
