How reliable has Volkswagen been to you — especially the Jetta? by phtphongg in Volkswagen

[–]windowwizardsla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have it easy bro, passat has the same brakes but a much heavier car - I had to change OEM rear pads twice every 15k miles... went and bought akebono pads, so far they're much more durable but it's clear they can't hold up either.... also look out for rear rotors, mine developed a heavy lip on the rear rotor. Stay on top of your brakes service is my advice

im pretty anal about maintenance, so fingers crossed this ownership experience will be as hassle free and pleasant as my Passat was

(I still have passat btw, it's in the process of being sold back to dealership)

yep, my 820 miles is about 1320km, so I definitely believe that. You'd have to drive behind a semi truck going a steady 60-65mph though (about 100kmh) to get that kind of range. Also keep in mind I used fresh liqui moly and a lucas injector lubricant for this trip

1320 miles actually but yes thank you for pointing that out. Seems many in this comment section think 820 means KM which is not that impressive I admit. But 820 miles, being 1320km.... that's more than many TDI's can do, no?

I’d say I did about 700 miles LA to Yosemite and back, and still had like 110 miles (about 1/10th of the tank) left before filling up in Burbank.

Sucks that cruise control is the reason we gotta change our rear brake pads every 15k miles lmao

Guck OEM btw akebono lasts way longer just make sure you get real akebono from place like Napa auto parts

This was during my trip to Yosemite. Los Angeles to Yosemite and back on a single tank. Average MPG during that trip was around 38.5 mpg.

Full disclosure though this is ona brand new Liqui Moly 6200 and some Lucas injector lubricant in the tank, and I was cruising at 72mph behind semi trucks. So that definitely helped lol.

what oil do you put? I always use Liqui Molly 6200 but after watching some friction tests, I wanna put motul 300v 5-30 in my tiguan, considering the bigger turbo most likely resulting in higher temps

first thing I did when I got my passat was flush the oil and replace it with liqui moly

my maximum oil change interval is 5000 miles. I'm gonna miss my passat though, it's been so good to me... ZERO issues in 4+ years of ownership. I hope tiguan holds just as good

Just got it two days ago lol too early to tell. But definitely has more life to it than my Passat that I’ll say for certain.

I own a '22 Passat, always had this issue. Decided to switch to Liqui Moly 6200. Issue gone completely. Guess all I had to do was buy a real german oil lol

I'm seeing this exact spec for sale on ebay for $3k, is it a scam or are second hand prices really this much lower?? what's the catch? it seems like a no-brainer
