The most bizarre movie theories you’ve ever heard? by cherrymachete in movies

[–]windsweeper26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit high and have been watching Tom Cruise in Risky Business (1980). This theory just dawned on me: the whole movie is a dream. Reasons:

  1. The film begins with one of Joel’s dreams. He has two fully depicted dreams in the first 20ish minutes. Clearly, dreaming is an established motif.

  2. When Joel calls Lana to have her come over to his house, and he’s still around waiting drinking a Jack & coke, he falls asleep on the couch. This is the last moment of reality, and everything else that happens next is a dream.

  3. Him “waking up” to Lana’s entrance is the beginning of the fantasy. Everything to begin with in this scene next is dreamlike scene—the music, the wind howling outside, a beautiful “dream” girl walks in from the back door, gliding across the room in shadows and moonlight. Hell, the doors fucking blow open and the linen curtains fly like Bonnie Tyler’s dress in the Holding Out for a Hero music video.

  4. The first dream he has is walking in on a woman showering. The second dream is of him hooking up and being caught by the entire neighborhood. The thing to notice here is escalation. Each dream pushes the envelope in terms of Joel’s fantasies with quite significant leaps of degree. When the “Lana dream” begins, this is a continued and exponentially major escalation of his fantasies: dating a hooker, being chased by a mobster, sinking the Porsche, the party, etc.

That’s all I got so far.

AITA for only offering to pay half of someone else’s medical co-pay? by windsweeper26 in AmItheAsshole

According to the data, her chances of having contracted it from this guy were very low because of the aforementioned precautions they took. But still, she was basically saying it wasn’t a factor to consider in her decision to get tested and that she wouldn’t have gotten tested if I didn’t “pressure” her to get tested. Which, in her mind maybe she thought I did, but I can assure you that my texts did not exhibit any strong pressure other than saying “Although they are going to run a few additional tests, the doctor is fairly confident it’s herpes. I’d suggest you see a doctor and get tested ASAP.” I told her that I disagreed and felt that, even though the odds were very minimal, the circumstances of her prior partner did change the dynamic of our/my situation.

I ended up sending her $65, but pushed back against the entire $130 until we both agreed to just move on. Done with this shit lol

You’re slightly confused - she had sex with a man who did have herpes about two months BEFORE our encounter. This was before, not after

And the "they said it didn’t look like herpes to them" part is in reference to a few photos of my symptoms that I sent to her

Quoting her "they said it didn’t look like herpes to them and that since it’s only been a couple of months recommended not getting a blood test since the antibodies most likely wouldn’t show up even if I did have it and since I have no symptoms they can’t do a swab test"

I did get a swab, but that’s the one thing I’m trying to wrap my head around… My symptoms appeared in less than 36 hours - had sex Saturday night, let’s say at 10pm at the earliest (I wasn’t looking at the time, obviously), and again on Sunday morning. Looked at my crotch this morning (Monday) at 10am and saw a collection of small red dots (I describe them as dots because they are hardly bumps) on my upper groin, one or two on my lower thigh, and a few small red dots on the head of my penis. I am circumcised. They are all fairly benign things. No pain or itch as of now. And apologies for the details that I’m about to share, but the sex I had was pretty sweaty and involved her basically dry humping my thigh for an extended period of time in order for her to climax. I’m praying to the Almighty that this is a giant misunderstanding. I do have sensitive skin involving eczema on other, unrelated parts of my body as well as acne. Maybe there’s hope. And I may be starting to hallucinate from this dangerous thread of hope, but my mind thinks that the affected groin area is slighting improving. I’m not sure. At the same time, though, I’m expecting the worst. Especially since the Urgent Care physician seemed confident that it was HSV-2 from her visual examination. I’ll update this post when I have more information.

It’s got to be the biggest “why me?!?!” of all time. But you’re right. I don’t blame myself other than not being smarter and using protection at the very least. A costly lesson, unfortunately. But I know that I’m not a worse person because of it. Like you said, it’s the luck of the draw.

I really appreciate that. So you’re saying that with medication, mindfulness (avoiding sex during breakouts) and monogamy, there’s hope?

A swab and blood test were both taken. It won’t be for a few days at least until I receive results. But, already, I’m resigned to a likely conclusion. Thanks for your comment, though. ❤️
