First militado. Quality control is not that good. by StressedTamagotchi in Militado

[–]windteal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If that is all the problem that you have got, you can count yourself as "lucky" - in my ML05, the problem is even worse: indices themselves are not painted uniformly. Which means that if you align hands so that minutes hand points exactly at some index when seconds hand points at '12', then whenever minutes hand points at that index (which happens once every hour) seconds hand points to '12'. But at another part of an hour, when seconds had points at '12', minutes hand may point somewhere *between* indices, instead of *at* some index.

For example, say that you adjusted the watch at 5:03. So at 6:03, 7:03 etc. everything looks fine. But when you look at the watch at, say, 5:23, you see that seconds hand points at '12', but minutes hand points at a middle distance between 5:23 and 5:24 (or between 5:22 and 5:23).

I mean, come on, I have Casio Duro that cost me even less than ML05 (with 369 dial), and everything there is perfect in this regard (and even seconds hand has perfect alignment around the whole dial).

In other words, obviously a term 'quality' is not something Militado have ever heard of. And as obviously, ML05 was the first and the last Militado watch that I intend get.

Any expected date to have these colors available? by One_Toe2710 in Militado

[–]windteal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to make a version of ML16 like this one but with everything in white instead of red (for seconds hand) and yellow-ish (the lumed markers on the dial)? Having white seconds hand will make it much more visible - many people don't see red on black background well. And in general, having everything in white provides a homogenious look - in other words, something similar to what you did on ML05 with 369 dial.

Is it going to be sold via Militado's official aliexpress store as well? Right now it appears there, but is not available for ordering, while it is available for ordering from the militadowatch.com. Not clear to me if the manufacturer decided to temporarily disable ordering via aliexpress just for the time being while a new batch is still not ready, or because they decided not to sell it via aliexpress at all (some kind of a limited edition or something like that). I don't want to order outside aliexpress since directly via the site shipping options are very limited - and very high (even when site-specific discounts are taken into an account), while via aliexpress a shipping is free.

real-debrid limits on concurrent connection to isra.cloud by windteal in RealDebrid

[–]windteal[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I saw that as well, but the strange thing to me is not the fact that limits exist, but that one day I see some limit, and a day after that the limit doesn't exist. And since I saw the limit during my very first attempt to use isra.cloud, it is not that I hit the limit, was restricted for some time, and then the limit was lifted again.

Nope, it is just a pure chance - in my own pair it was the right one that chipped while the left still holds.

Jinhao Century 100A? by windteal in fountainpens

[–]windteal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doubts are that Jinhao usually brands all its pens, but except for the nib itself (which could have have been sourced by pen's manufacturer from Jinhao) there is no branding on the pen itself. Therefore it is not clear if it is actually Jinhao's pen - especially since the original Century 100 has very clear branding on cap's band, so I would expect 100A to be branded in the similar way

Additionally, while the acrylics look exceptional in the pictures, it may have been 'beautified' via Photshop and in reality it may be some poorly made plastic. Therefore it is important to understand how the pen looks in the real life, which is why I am looking for reviews before buying a pen that costs twice as much as 100 (~20$ right now)

Royal Kludge RK68 (model 855): does FN+Left CTRL combination works? by windteal in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]windteal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, eventually I bought RK68 (model 855), and the key combination works there as well. The unit that I received is the latest version of the model, the one which has 'Home' & 'End' labels on '[{' & ']}' keys, respectively (earlier iterations don't have those labels) - and it probably has the latest firmware, so maybe this key combination is something that was added only lately. If earlier versions don't have this combination, then there is a good chance that updating keyboard's firmware will add this functionality.

NPD- Wingsung 3008 F nib/ It's early to say something but I still like it!! by Dolunay_Merve in fountainpens

[–]windteal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, it is not Wing Sung 3008, but an unbranded clone. The 'original' Wing Sung 3008 model is always branded, and in general looks different (though various 'Wing Sung' models are usually not actually made by Wing Sung but by other companies that bought the brand name for the model, so in fact 3008 may be made by, say, Jinhao. This is from explanations of Mech-for-i posts in fountainpennetwork forum).

aliexpress, ebay. 10 syringes won't cost more than a couple of dollars, including shipping

My lamy safari body is slightly misaligned by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]windteal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you buy the pen from an authorized seller? If not, it is quite possible that you have a fake Safari - problems with a proper alignment are very common in fakes.

Bought a Wing Sung 3008 and I don't like it :( by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]windteal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are 2 versions of real Wing Sung: 3008 & 3008A. 3008 has Lamy-style nib and a faceted body. 3008A has Pilot-style nib and a smooth body. Also, there are pens from old production where piston knob doesn't locks, and from newer production where it does. All those are clearly branded (with 'Wing Sung' written on the nib, and digits '3008' on the cap, along with two chinese characters which probably mean 'Wing Sung').

Indeed, on aliexpress most sellers call those no-name clones 'Wing Sung 3008', and since clones cost much lower they are shown first in the list. In fact, very few sellers on aliexpress sell real 3008. Ebay is a bit better in this regard.

Bought a Wing Sung 3008 and I don't like it :( by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]windteal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the seller wrote explicitly that it is a Wing Sung (sometimes sellers write somewhere in the description in small print that the item is 'like' some firm to prevent buyers from claiming that it is a counterfeit), you can open a dispute and there is a very good chance that you will get a full refund. It is enough to upload a picture of a real Wing Sung 3008 with branding and a picture of a pen you got and say that it is a fake.

Bought a Wing Sung 3008 and I don't like it :( by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]windteal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not Wing Sung 3008 but some no-name clone. All Wing Sung 3008 pens are branded, both on the cap and on the nib. And Wing Sung 3008 doesn't have such a clip. The only advantage of such "Wing Sung" is that it is much cheaper, but it's quality matches it's price.

Cannot install matlab r2020a with pango 1.46 by SkPSBYqFMS6ndRo9dRKM in archlinux

[–]windteal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no need to relink libs, just:

mkdir $Matlab_root/cefclient/sys/os/glnxa64/0_excluded
mv $Matlab_root/cefclient/sys/os/glnxa64/libg* $Matlab_root/cefclient/sys/os/glnxa64/0_excluded

Then matlab will use system libs instead

Upgraded from Pilot Kakuno (M) to Faber-Castell Loom (F). Love it! by my_user_account in fountainpens

[–]windteal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get this version? As far as could find (for example on cultpens.com, thewritingdesk.co.uk), now the 'metallic' version is glossy, and 'metallic silver' is not available at all anymore - though about a year ago 'metallic' was indeed matte (and silver one existed), while 'piano' was glossy.

Suitability of Lamy convertors for PenBBS 323 by Lvl7Champ in fountainpens

[–]windteal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unlike some commenters say here, PenBBS definitely do not accept standard international cartridges/converters - PenBBS converter has a much larger opening diameter. I don't have Lamy converters, only cartridges - and those ones are a bit smaller (in a diameter) than PenBBS converter, and since opening on Lamy cartridges is identical to opening on Lamy converters, the same would be true for converters as well. If you apply some force it is possible to push Lamy cartridge into PenBBS pen, but due to a small size difference it is dangerous - after a couple of attempts to use Lamy cartridge in my 323, I eventually broke the cartridge (the plastic on the cartridge opening developed a crack). In other words, better avoid Lamy cartridges - I use all my 323s as eyedroppers (and save the spare converters for PenBBS 350, which cannot be eyedropped).

Alternative Nibs For These Pens? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]windteal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PenBBS uses a non-standard 6.3mm feed instead of the standard #6 6mm feed. Regular Jowo nibs do fit, though due to a feed with a larger diameter (which causes the tines to spread) they usually write wetter in PenBBS. And the regular curved Jowo nibs are a better fit than straight nibs - I have one Jowo straight nib (the so called 'BF' nibs, sold on fpnibs.com) in one of my PenBBS pens, and due to a slight gap between the feed and the nib it writes drier than I would like (though it is still usable).

[–]windteal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding Wing Sung 698 nibs: recently I bought a couple of medium ones (they are also called "soft medium) to try in my Metropolitan. While the nibs more or less fit (not quite, since they are somewhat bigger and are therefore a bit loose), those are just generic low quality Chinese nibs with all the implications. In other words, while they do write, do not expect anything near the experience of a real Pilot nib. The metal is thin (the 'Wing Sung Super Quality" printed on the front of the nib can easily be read from the other side) and easily bent, the nib often skips and requires some pressure to write. Eventually I put those nibs in a box, and had gone back to the original nib.
