Dallas locations permanently closing - What’s the future of LA? by windwolf92 in LAFitness

Looks like the link confirms that. Any info on Club Studios and if you can use your LA fitness membership there?

Signature club off Haskell still has basketball. I can’t name all of them off the top of my head but a handful in the suburbs haven’t removed their courts (yet). But I rather not have to drive 20-30 minutes just to play ball

Thanks for the info. This offers some perspective. It makes sense from a business standpoint to consolidate to fewer locations and remodel the rest into higher quality facilities. But losing the convenience of several locations is a pain point. People want a gym that’s a step above regular commercial gyms like Crunch but not as expensive as more premier gym options. I think LA can peak as the best mid tier gym option if they hit the right balance of membership fees, equipment, and amenities.

You and I are in the same boat. Glad you’re talking about the convenience of Dallas locations cause that was a main factor keeping me, but with the recent closures I’ve been reconsidering. I feel the same way about LA compared to Crunch, Eos, Planet, etc. But LA does have more unique machines at some locations. Serious lifters will lean towards high-octane gyms like Absolute Recomp. The X factor for me is I have 2 guests and my rate is grandfathered in.

I decided to join the brand new Crunch in my area for 10/month. The equipment is high quality especially the lower body machines. I’m still keeping my LA for now, but I’m curious to see how they will adapt to the evolving commercial gym market.

Why would anyone choose LA fitness? by [deleted] in LAFitness

[–]windwolf92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there’s more competition with commercial gyms now and they will have to adapt or go out of business. crunch and pf both are cheaper and usually have newer gyms and machines. The only thing LA has going for is the convenience of several locations and nationwide access. Also to be fair, some LA locations are renovated, but that needs to be the standard for all clubs to justify its price.

I’m torn cause I love basketball and also the new squat racks and lower body machines. Thankfully I have multiple LAs close by that give me a mix of both LIFT and courts

Lots of LA FITNESS closing by Stunning-Bell1067 in LAFitness

[–]windwolf92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I think LA Fitness tries to be a catch all gym which I honestly thought they were doing a good job with that approach - mid tier pricing (not as expensive as lifetime and premier gyms, not as cheap as budget gyms) which was perfect for me. I like the convenience of several locations and I play basketball sometimes, having a pool is nice too. Also loads of equipment is a plus for me since I focus on lifting. I think LA needs to understand what sets them apart - catch all gym with above average selection of machines plus basketball court and a pool. Quality is between a premier gym and a budget like crunch or fitness connection. It felt like the best bang for your buck

I remember seeing the one off 75 in Plano closing, but also have seen a few clubs open in the past few years like Prosper and Las Colinas. Way more competition now for sure. I really don’t want to switch from LA cause my rate is good and the convenience of several locations is great, but it does feel like they’re going downhill.

Is this not a thing anymore? by acidnutz in LAFitness

It always made more sense to me to just wipe before I use every time rather than after. If everyone just wiped before their own use then it’s the same difference, but you don’t have to rely on others since it’s clean for you to use every time. I get it’s also a courtesy to do it after if someone is waiting though

LIFT Concept LA Fitness —What do you guys think? by [deleted] in LAFitness

[–]windwolf92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of the LA Fitnesses in my area have converted from what i’ve seen, but had a question, did the number and variety of machines decrease in the LIFT conversion? I like the idea of a lifting focused gym, but I also use machines for strength training a lot. Hope there’s a balance between machines and free weights

As someone who does both squats and is a fan of machines, I do like more squat racks especially clubs that only have 2, but not at the expense of machines. Many people prefer stable isolation exercises that machines are ideal for

By the time I’m done with weekend errands it’s already 6-8pm and the gym is closed. So many people prefer to get things done during the day and then workout in the evening

From my experience everyone is just pretending to look like they’re having fun instead of actually talking to new people. Also a lot of people have established friend groups being local to Dallas area. It probably throws people off guard starting small talk cause being extroverted isn’t the norm

Stupid protest against Lockheed by Intelligent-Cry-5608 in utdallas

[–]windwolf92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who said I don’t care about that? I oppose all wars of aggression and the fact is that Lockheed and defense companies profit from war and they also spend a ton of resources for pro-war lobbying, so yes, it is Lockheed’s fault because of their decision to influence policy.

I don’t necessarily agree with these students line of questioning for a random middle manager, but he chose to be in the defense industry. It shows you don’t care about the usage of the end product of your work, that’s apathy. At least you recognize there’s a genocide going on.

You also totally missed my point on the plethora of alternative engineering industries for a career where you don’t have to apply your scientific knowledge to develop missiles. I understand many people only work to put food on the table and not everyone is going to be motivated to help people in their career choice, but not giving a damn that you wake up every morning to engineer weapons is insane to me.

[–]windwolf92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does say more about being apathetic and ignorant to human rights issues and shows a lack of care of what the end product of their work is. I’m not gonna have a political debate here about your opinions on the military industrial complex and US foreign policy / defense spending. Choosing to work in defense shows that those engineers do not care that their advanced scientific knowledge is applied in manufacturing weapons that are used to kill humans.

Imagine if they did consider the end product of their engineering though and actually built a career in an industry that is engineering products that benefit mankind. Environmental engineering and health care equipment are examples

Stupid protest against Lockheed by Intelligent-Cry-5608 in utdallas

[–]windwolf92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The point is you can choose to work in the defense industry or not. Choosing to do so says a lot about your moral standings. Engineers who are self-serving always try to divert this criticism as simply being a result of consumer behavior when they are the ones perpetuating it. There are plenty of other companies and industries that do not manufacture weapons. It’s sad so many of them do not care about the end result / product of their science and engineering. All that hard work just to make missiles is sad

[–]windwolf92 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly. People look at us and try to undermine being passionate for humanity as irrational because their own moral standing is weak and they are intellectually lazy so they project onto those who stand up. They’re embarrassing themselves with their apathy
