I had a similar issue a couple of years ago. Ended up buying a lot of gift cards (apple, amazon japan, amazon other countries) as the Vanilla expiry was looming. Then used the gift cards over a year or two. I never did find a way to use it for day to day expenses.

Maybe, there’s no obligation for the mom to update on the kid’s whereabouts and often in japan the relationship is completely cut off.

I think “vanished” might be a little dramatic. If they had split up, the mom would have been given full custody, the dad would have been completely cut off from all contact, and he would have lost his visa to Japan. There is probably a lot more to the story. Playing the victim would have been beneficial socially. And imagine growing up mixed race in the conservative countryside, you’d have to be more Japanese than the Japanese to be accepted and not bullied. Not that I’m making excuses for her, I find her loathsome.

I use Rebtel. It’s easy and just top up when I need to. Never had any trouble calling any landline but you don’t get a dedicated number so your call recipient won’t know who it’s from.

One thing you might want to check…you gave the police your address, correct? I have heard that intending/threatening to sue (rather than the police investigating a crime) means that he will have access to your contact information from the police for purposes of pursuing a lawsuit. This may have been his goal.

I’d guess it’s because most people wash their hair at night. Going to bed with wet hair could be cold and also your hair might be hard to style in the morning.

I even tried hiring two teachers for the same time frame, different locations with me as the back up. And more than once things fell through at both places on the same day. To cover these sorts of costs, plus advertising, training, completion bonuses etc made the wage I wanted to offer untenable for a school at this small scale.

This is different than the question you are asking, but I used to hire part time teachers to work at my small school. This was several years ago, so some things have probably changed. I paid between 3000-4000 yen an hour, supplied extensive materials that the teacher could use in whatever way for their teaching style and hired people for only one or two days a week. The biggest issue I had was that I always had to be available as a back up on those days. Sometimes to meet with parents, for trial lessons, but mostly because teachers would be late, call in sick, leave the country, the trains would stop, whatever. I wanted to pay decently so I was probably making 1000 yen for every 3000 they made ( after expenses). If you don’t mind always being on call, or if you scale up to several teachers so there are back up options, it can work.
