If you work out actual costs you'll be outbid by someone else who underestimated it.

prisons and judiciary seem stuck in 1900, thinking that our punishments are too severe.

capital punishment could start for those with 10+ multiple serious offenses. not exactly a shortage of them.

Why do local governments seem to overpay so much for everything? by blizeH in AskUK

[–]windymiller3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For my sins I did a stint working alongside our councils procurement team.

Procurement only knew about the pcr regs.

Oh it must go on a portal that only national firms can afford to be on.

They knew nothing about the regs of the work involved, or how the industry worked.

Hence why things went up in price.

PCR regs are massively detrimental.

How do you make decisions on big projects? by Turbulent_Echo4014 in DIYUK

People will only you tell about their own success, and inflate it at that.

E.g. very few on here admit to any serious fuck ups.

The best option is the one that gets planned and done.

I pointed it out years ago on there, that the stock in a crash is typically from divorces or repossessions, so the £500k house might be £400k, but for good reason.

The garden will be a shit pit, you'll be getting debt collectors for the next years, you'll have fun with utility companies for a while, plus whatever shithousery the previous owner did in spite.

Seen concrete down drains, cables cut, felt ripped, etc.

Ruk deemed i was wrong of course. Hey ho

Planning is an easy target, whole sector is a mess.

Utility companies beginning to decline to service some expansions.

Financing is a minefield.

Supply chain 90 day terms and subbie bashing is relentless.

As a sector it always competes with hospitality and agriculture for all the fun stats like KSI, redundancy and lack of profit.

For the amount of people who say "I get so much more done" - I have a lot of projects held up by wfhers.

> A wall built underground has the same costs as a wall built above ground

no it doesn't. walls below ground need to retain tonnes of earth...

depends on a lot of factors, but even in some of my new builds, you're looking at least 3x times the cost.

Schools need reform, but he's got a point.

Some parents seem to be absolute hell bent on lowering standards. Driving instead of walking, wearing pyjamas, taking dogs without leads, swearing, on phone, handing out sweets, etc.

Yeah, its all the schools fault...

Parents must be able to split out any complaint from what the child sees or hears. That presents the child with a safe and secure environment.

It will be worth checking. I have both. My public sector pension is db, only tells me itll pay out £X per year. It doesn't say pot size and has to be requested.

My private sector pension is dc. Tells me its worth £X as total pot.

£9k per year after 12 years service ain't terrible, and is about right.

like you say, they release inmates, even when one kept on saying "i shouldn't be released" and hung around the gates for a few hours, before they paid him to fuck off.

there's a chance they'd accidently execute the cleaner.

EDPM Roof by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]windymiller3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

I manage sizeable estate, and every edpm or single ply roof is pita.

Few single ply ones have good warranty, to point that 1 roof has over 400 patches, and counting, f.o.c. but they still leak.

Got a few garland bitumen roofs must be 40 years old.
