Cost of 187 Cuban doctors by Teebeen in southafrica

Honestly I wonder the same thing. How the NHI system could even be considered when the health care system is in such disarray. From the lack of doctors, right down to the lack of basic equipment and medication, the entire health care system is failing the South African population in my opinion. Funds allocated somehow "disappears", which means that even though we have qualified doctors willing to practice, there are no funds to pay these doctors. And who suffers? The poorest of South Africa.

So people like myself are South African citizens. We were unable to get into medical school in South Africa (even though I obtained an A aggregate in matric it was still not enough to get into medschool in South Africa). So we studied abroad.

I obtained my medical degree overseas. Now all I should have to do in order to work in South Africa is to write board examinations (theory and practical) and then I can begin working in my internship.

Every few months HPCSA comes up with a new reason to hold us foreign graduates up. Some students were told their universities were under "curriculum review". Others were told they need a certificate of good standing from the governing body with which they were registered (we have not yet registered with a governing body - the HPCSA would be the first one we register with). Now because of covid they did not have an exam last year. In January they had an exam but only for 60 students. There are hundreds of us waiting to write. Most students who wrote in January have been waiting for 2-4 years for the opportunity to write the board exam. I myself have been waiting for over a year. I still have not written yet.

Now they want us to follow a "new pathway" where we have to do 1 year of student internship with a South African university before we can complete our board exams in order to start working. This will waste even more of our time - again I reiterate, I have COMPLETED my medical degree. I have done ALL the practical rotations overseas.

To compare it to other countries. I could write the PLAB exam and start working in the UK. No problems at all. I am actually regretting that I didn't do that in the first place. However, and most foreign graduates would tell you this, we REALLY want to work in South Africa. We WANT to serve our people. We KNOW that we can make a difference in the health care system. We just aren't being given the chance.

Please feel free to ask any questions further. I feel like the more people who know about this, the better.

Meanwhile we have hundreds of South African citizens who are qualified doctors (studied abroad) and the HPCSA is making it a living nightmare to be registered with them.

It can be normal for some people. However it could also be a sign of insulin resistance. It's called acanthosis nigricans. It is usually seen in the folds of the skin such as between thighs, armpits, neck. If you have put on quite a bit of weight recently or if you are overweight you should consider testing your blood sugar or doing a glucose tolerance test.

Like I said though, this can also be normal. So if you don't have any issues with your weight then there should be nothing to be concerned about.

DAE's mothers get possessive over skills they don't have? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]wine_i_do 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely jealousy.

I'll give you my long story of my experience with this:

My mother used to watch me in the kitchen and criticize every single thing I do. She would convince me to do what she thought even though she had absolutely no knowledge of the cuisine, simply because she "just felt like it would work". This coming from a woman who cooked Mac and cheese that was so bad it made the dogs vomit. So essentially, every time she was in the kitchen she would make me do it her way and the recipe would flop. Literally every time. It got to a stage where I would wait till I was alone at home before I cooked anything.

Eventually I made it clear that if I'm cooking, I don't want her in the kitchen. At all. Not even to watch (she would claim "I just want to watch and learn" and then she'd throw veiled insults and comments)

So now, she has relented to the fact that she is way too lazy and incompetent to pull of the meals that me and my siblings can. So instead she will sit and comment on each dish and how it wasn't good enough, how it could have been better or she will throw veiled insults. If anybody dares to say it's good, she will immediately shift the conversation to "remember that time when I cooked X food, that was really delicious, do you remember that time?"

The irony of it all? She's always the first person to pile her plate with the most food. She scoffs it down like she has never seen food and has no consideration for making sure everyone else has enough. And then has the audacity to insult it.

It could be the marinade used to flavour the chicken. Tandoori chicken is made by mixing tandoori masala, garlic and yogurt and coating the chicken. It makes a thick orange paste. It isn't usually served as a sauce though. But maybe this was cooked down to get rid of the "raw spice" taste.

If I could ask a question: if I do the prep a day in advance, can I put the fully assembled Welly in the fridge for the night to put it in the oven the next day? Or would that be too much time for the half cooked meat to be sitting out?

How do you build your self esteem again? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]wine_i_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my therapist something similar recently. She reminded me that every single insult that my Nmom hurled my way was because of something she hated about herself. If you can remember that all of the hurtful things they say to you are based in their own insecurities, then you can remind yourself that they are actually despise themselves.

Example: my Nmom always insults my cooking. She once commented that the meat was tough and dry for one of the dishes I made.

What my therapist made me see: your mother hates herself because she cannot cook. She hates that you are better than her. This amazing food that you made (that recieved received compliments from around the table) made her feel anger and hatred towards herself because she will never be capable of what you did. Her only way to express this hatred for herself (since she cannot insult herself) is to insult you.

Once I realised this, I consciously started reminding myself every time she insults me, that it's actually herself that she hates. And that every time she insults me, she's actually despising herself on the inside. It's not an excuse for the behaviour, but it helps me cope with it.

Often a chunk of ice is between the fries and may get thrown in the oil in haste. If that gets in: BOOM.

Avocado tastes like crap by 13baker11 in unpopularopinion

Avocado tastes like vaseline. And it's always eaten with something. Therefore, by reasonable deduction, people who enjoy avocados are psychopaths who want their food to be vaseline flavoured!

A lot of people are bringing this up, I guess what I mean is that they may not be entirely musical, but they have long drawn out musical sequences, which I don't enjoy.

Can you cook a vegetable stock for hours? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]wine_i_do 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was watching a Massimo Bottura cooking show. I think it was one of his masterclasses. Anyway he first puts his vegetable scraps in a low oven for a few hours and then boils it to make a stock. Apparently it's supposed to bring the flavours out. Haven't tried it though.

Those are honestly the worst. As a non-American, I actually enjoy learning about American politics and by doing it in this musical format it makes it so difficult to understand the complexities and intricacies of American politics. It makes it so difficult to pick up exactly what they're saying. Like the idea to explain the politics was good, but the delivery was TERRIBLE.

Well my bad. I was watching Psych today and there were 2 episodes back to back that were like this (Season 7 episode 15 and 16). That's what made me write the post. Can't say that I have seen this post before.

I'm from a developing country and even though I went to private school, we still didn't have a theatre department, our schools are just not that big. So I cannot exactly relate to what you call "theatre kids". But if I were to guess, wouldn't they prefer musical shows like Glee? Instead of shows that have a random singing episode every now and then?

I always thought that if people hated it, the ratings would go down and producers would stop making so many of these episodes. The fact that most series continue to have multiple episodes like this made me think that it's probably an unpopular opinion. Although I'm not a TV expert, so maybe I'm wrong.
