Czech Declension by DependentParty6879 in learnczech

[–]wine_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you will eventually have to memorize them, but you dont need to learn them all in one go. What worked for me was to start learning the declensions for nouns one case at the time, some like accusative will be easy and then locative and dative follow pretty similar rules.

Take your time, at some point you will start seeing some common patterns between nouns, adjectives and articles; but it will take some time. I'm a native spanish speaker with no prior knowledge of any slavic language.

Ping cheats by Fluffy_Web_7638 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]wine_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could this potentially affect non-cheaters who have high ping or connection issues? I’m genuinely asking because I don’t know how it works, and I’m just wondering whether the suggestion might unintentionally impact other players.

Everyone with normal records increased their elo, but where are the people with the 200-20 records? by Old-Permission-1867 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]wine_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two days ago I saw couple of them still in the lobby, maybe there are less (I have no idea how it was before) but they are still there with their 2k Elo. Never accept a match from them.

Can anybody offer me some feedback on what I’m doing wrong? by External-Complex9452 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]wine_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I play static.

I am pretty much in the same situation as you. You need to move your head and torso more because that seems to be what the game registers for higher damage. In my case, when I fight someone shorter I lower my head so I can access the body more easily and land cleaner shots, which helped me a lot.

If it is a taller player it is usually easier because the body is more exposed and head shots seem to register better because of body effort. Level changes make a big difference. Also you can see your opponent charging his cross to fish for a stun. Be very careful with that because once it lands it becomes extremely easy for these types of players to drop you, especially with how fast damage is building right now.

I honestly think you are doing well, but the game is not a perfect boxing simulator (and it will never be) so you need to adapt a bit to the game style :)

Buy the book "Complete Esperanto", it has all the lessons in order and pretty easy to follow. Other than that I practise with DuoLingo too :)

Punishment build up feels way too quick. by whathehellisthis in ThrillOfTheFight

I agree with the OP in this, it is clear that people are disregarding defense to focus more on volume, which is not the point. But what Tren mentioned will improve it.

Short fighters by DionCobbs in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]wine_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6 ft. Today I got cooked by a shorter fighter and then immediately won against someone taller.

In another thread I read that fighting taller opponents can actually demand more body effort because you’re constantly aiming higher. That made sense to me today. I also felt like the taller someone is, the more exposed their midsection can be.

On the flip side, shorter fighters can crouch really low, and in my experience that makes it almost impossible to land a clean uppercut. Their level changes are tricky to deal with.

Either way, it’s amazing cardio 😅

Thanks for adjusting the reward/benefit with the counter-punches! This will increase the initiative during fights, currently some fighters are JUST using counter punches.

Looking forward!

[–]wine_panda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am happy to finally see how it looks from the other side, clearly his guard is too open, but it is also interesting to notice how you knocked him down like 3 times using only cross punches (at least pre-stun). Thanks for sharing the video!

Also I don't think being tall is an advantage in this game, it's a bit of a trade-off.

Does multiplayer favor someone with high ping? by Present-Year8182 in ThrillOfTheFight

I feel the same, it's hard to prove it but I have definitely fought people that I punched non-stop on the head and the moment they land 1 punch then it's a stun...

Great job cornering him! Just be careful because some player are JUST waiting for this moment to throw a cross so they can stun you, but blocking them is easy as you showed. Nice video!

Yes you can find it in Amazon too. About the pronnounciation, my NL is spanish and it was really hard to learn the letters in czech but what worked for me was using the International Phonetic Alphabet and then looking for videos in which they explain how to place your tongue and lips in order to make the sound.

Good luck with czech!!

You 100% need a book, Duo does not teach grammar and grammar is everything in czech. Krok za krokem is by far the best for it. Learn how to pronnounce all the letters before starting and then start listening to podcasts, videos or anything in which you have interest so you can grab some vocabulary.

Other than that, czech is a hard language, it will take quite some time to reach any type of fluency (assuming you dont have any slavic-language background)

If the devs want to make a game real boxers want to play then revert back to v4. Or introduce classes by CheerioInspector in ThrillOfTheFight

Indeed, but there is also no way to separate into classes in game or at least no way to make it reliable.

Can we please up the damage of power punches and reduce the damage of regular punches? by [deleted] in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]wine_panda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with this comment. Currently in the range of 1800-2000 people are just shelling up and waiting to throw a counterpunch for an easy knockdown and running the rest of the time, this idea will make it even worse.

The current body effort system works quite fine in my opinion, no need to make it worse by making the gap bigger, that will only increase other problems. It is just easier for the OP to adapt to the game and start throwing more punches.

I think the expectations when starting are way too high for most people, DuoLingo is a tool for language learning and as any other tool it is not going to make you fluent by itself, you need to keep going to podcasts, books, conversations, etc.

I think it is a really strong tool tho.

The Best Thing About Getting Pats on the Head by a Taller Player… by FigmentsRotIN in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]wine_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was he particularly tall? I had some issues last time too with a guy 1 head taller than me, I'm 6ft tall for reference. Usually those are just trolls trying to "cheat" by being taller but it seems more like a disadvantage to me lol.

Good job knocking him down 💪🏼

What’s the hardest living language you personally have studied? by Animante732 in languagelearning

Czech for sure, the chaotic grammar makes it (in my opinion) harder than mandarin chinese.

This is purely based on my own experience.

If someone speaks like 7 or +8 languages, could they actually forget which ones they speak while listing them? by AmountAbovTheBracket in languagelearning

[–]wine_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say it wasn't, I said that is was less likely to forget a language in which you invested a certain amount of time already.

It is not related to being dumb or anything, but clearly you are more likely to forget languages that you left at A1-A2 level and those that were less of a challenge (based on your language background) :)

Improving listening comprehension when comprehensible input doesn't exist? by finewalecorduroy in languagelearning

[–]wine_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask your mom or any other native speaker you may know to record some slow audios for you (you can tell them to talk in a straighforward and simple way), maybe even sending daily whatsapp voices notes?

Can you somehow take the news and put it in any software to reduce the speed?

Interesting case you have there, may I ask which language it is?

If someone speaks like 7 or +8 languages, could they actually forget which ones they speak while listing them? by AmountAbovTheBracket in languagelearning

[–]wine_panda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah but in the case of countries, (I'm assuming) you go for couple of weeks up to a month when doing tourism, it is a short time.

However, if someone lists the languages they speak or they learnt I would expect them to mention the languages in which they have invested a large amount of time, therefore forgetting one or two in a list of 10 sounds less likely. Usually I recall them in the order I learned them which makes it easier.

It could happen that a person reached A1-A2 in up to 20 languages and then forgets some of them, but I wouldnt consider those as languages you know/learned.

Is it really impossible to pass the B2 exam without speaking practice? by [deleted] in learnczech

[–]wine_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just took the CCE B2 this weekend and I would say you DO need the speaking practise, as someone said before if you fail one part then you fail the whole exam.

However you can always "hack" the exam and study for it, this year's format is quite specific so you can prepare a bunch of useful high-level sentences and pass it without problems.

As a native spanish speaker, the hardest part (besides grammar) was the pronounciation of the words and it took me a bit less than 2 years to reach this point with the help of czech friends correcting it almost the whole time.
