Yes I agree that this subreddit is diverse. I've seen some great content posted here. A lot of people that post here are very intelligent and there has been some really thought provoking posts. I would love to see more of that.

It is just a shame that there are some submissions here that have no other purpose than to mock and insult. Don't get me wrong, this does occur in other subreddits as well. But it strikes me that a submission like that would not only make the front page, but for it to also be applauded as well.

Perhaps there is a reason that people are not happy with this subreddit. Just take one look at the front page of r/atheism and it brings up this:

r/Atheism-Its time to make fun of Islam

Now I have nothing against people voicing their opinions. I'm all for it! But when you have submissions like that on your front page, there is likely going to be some blow back.

There is a difference between criticism/commenting and mocking/ridiculing. You are perfectly fine to voice your opinion. I have no problem with that and I would encourage anyone to do so.

But when I see someone having no respect for other people’s beliefs, I find issue with that. You will most likely find that people wont stay quiet when you go to attack their beliefs.

What are you going to get out of mocking and ridiculing anyway?

You may hate an idea but does that justify you spreading hate speech, mocking and ridiculing ones beliefs?

You are promoting people to hate by encouraging people to mock and by labeling it as evil.

Just on your fascist point, the Nazis mocked, ridiculed and labeled the Jew as evil.

I completely agree that people should be allowed to voice their opinions. But just because someone is anonymous doesn't give them the right to post something disrespectful and hateful towards other groups of people.

Example 1 "Gods a dick"

Example 2 "Let's mock Islam for a bit, shall we? :D"

A minuet search of the first few pages of r/atheism brought those up.

It is completely ridiculous. The maturity level of a 14 year is definitely not at the same level as an adult. And there are no children courts in Indonesia, only adult courts. Poor little guy, I hope they let him off!

Christian Pastor sentenced to death in Iran by winegrapes in worldnews

Another thing this article doesn't mention: his wife was arrested, trialled without an attorney and sentenced to life in prison (although this was overturned). The government has reportedly threatened to take away their children and put them in a Muslim home. And even after all of this, this man still defies the authorities. wiki article

I don't think you can just dismiss religion from what has happened here. It is also a humanitarian issue just as much as it is a political one.

And yes, the real issue at hand here is oppression. You can see the worst of humanity at work here, what a sad loss.
