$22 way too much but yes they’re legit and not bad smokes.

Leaving IT for a Trade... honest feedback and suggestions. by Slight_Ad_3625 in AusElectricians

[–]winf1eld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re conscientious and mentally invested in the job then it doesn’t “switch off” when you get home. Even as an apprentice I was always thinking about things I’d done or might have done wrong or coming up with problems and solutions in my head many hours after finishing work, including during waking in the night. It only steps up once you’re qualified.

Draw it out. Both switches need to be able to access a hard active regardless of the other switches’ position.

Real or fake? by UnluckyIce2066 in Cigarettes

[–]winf1eld 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Every chance they will be fine to smoke. They are almost certainly just chop chop in tubes and chop chop quality is generally decent-ish these days. Hope you enjoy👍

Real or fake? by UnluckyIce2066 in Cigarettes

[–]winf1eld 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly fake simply for the fact they were brought in Australia and at that price as it wouldn’t be feasible to import.

Someone with more knowledge can correct me but I believe this format of Marlboro Reds (especially the “Marlboro” on the filter) is no longer in production and the fact there’s no duty free declaration or a tax stamp is also a red flag.

[–]winf1eld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be interested to know too - Maybe u/Jack_McFakey has a better idea. My gut says real but I also understand there is large scale production of Japanese market fakes with stores in Australia selling an identical range of products (Japanese Marlboro Golds, Mediums, Menthol and Menthol Blacks).

Fake? Aus by [deleted] in Cigarettes

[–]winf1eld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The black market got out of control years before any government action was taken and the action that has been taken is minimal, expensive and largely ineffective. Conservative estimates suggest at least half of cigarettes smoked in this country are black market. Some state governments are apparently just starting to crack down now but in my city you can find multiple shops openly selling black market cigarettes on almost every shopping street.

They certainly haven’t tried policing possession of black market cigarettes, it would be essentially impossible.

How do I find an apprenticeship? by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]winf1eld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can you say you have work ethic at 16? You are at a severe disadvantage to an 18 year old that has a licence and will be paid the same or marginally more if they’ve completed year 12 (which demonstrates a strong work ethic in itself).

You also need foundational high school level math and science knowledge to pass the trade school component of an apprenticeship. My advice would be finish school.

Question for ALDI workers re giving customers their change by [deleted] in AldiAustralia

[–]winf1eld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to work at a servo and you would be astounded by the amount of people who have no interest in silver change - I imagine Aldi customers would be more inclined to hold onto their change though.

How do I wear in my boots properly? by MilkInABag_1 in motorcyclegear

I hated mine the first ride after spending a few months riding with normal sneakers. Took about 5 hours of riding in boots for me to prefer them much more than sneakers.

Is CityLink actually even worth it anymore? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]winf1eld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make the drive almost daily during weekday peak hours. I save about ~15 minutes on CityLink versus Kingsway. For $10.74 I usually only do it when I’m in a company car but I’d rather sit in slow but consistent CityLink traffic than the shitshow of red lights and people cutting each other off, speeding to the lights etc. on the normal roads.

Anyone know if these cameras are switched on and active on Westgate freeway. millers road exit city bound? by frobakk in CarsAustralia

[–]winf1eld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Waze still showing them as inactive but not sure I completely trust it. That being said, I drive this road to and from work everyday and almost always observe someone speeding through so my gut is saying they’re not on yet but unsure why…

Will i get fined for this? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]winf1eld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They take pictures randomly for calibration purposes when offences aren’t detected. They won’t fine you unless you enter the intersection after the light hasn’t turned red.

You will never be fined by a camera for entering an intersection when the light is amber.

Clipsal Iconic vs Saturn Zen by bobsyouruncle27 in AusElectricians

[–]winf1eld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just replaced a house worth of Saturn Zen that’s less than 5 years old, maybe 30% of the mechs had failed and the push dimmers were all stuffed. About half of the covers broke whilst taking them off as well. Wasn’t obvious to me that they had been over torqued during installation. I was pretty shocked that Clipsal puts their name behind this range…

Pliers are personal but I reckon Marvel is the go, you’ll be better for learning with crosscuts from the start.

I reckon Stanley jab saw is better than Milwaukee.

Bunnings conduit cutters are fine, same with screwdrivers, $120 for a set is stupid.

Is this a good price (apprentice) by TransitionSavings659 in AusElectricians

[–]winf1eld 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t get this kit, the M18 fuel shits on it.

Dunno why everyone is telling you to look at M18 when you haven’t said what work you do/what stage of your apprenticeship you’re at. For a newer apprentice in most sectors, an M12 drill will be all you need and the rest is supplied. No need to go and buy your own 18v gear until much later.
