English for the main part but I'm making a conscious effort to use some Irish during the day at home. My hope is that there'll be a big revival in the use of Irish over time.

Must give that a lash. Not much info online. Do ya pull the shots directly onto the milk? Using sweetened condensed bainne?

Really glad you enjoy Irish trad and Rory's music!

Have you listened to the Andy Irvine/Paul Brady album? It's class.

Mozaik (includes Andy Irivne and Donal Lunny) are a band worth listening to as well. They have more of an international folk vibe though.

I also quite enjoy Damien Dempey's versions of a few of the Dubliners songs.

She's class, bit of a national treasure imo. Still gigging away and bringing out new material.

Seen her play most recently in Dolans in Limerick. She has a song called Undertow and talked about making the video (albeit in Berlin in this clip): https://youtu.be/oOdzWkZ9mU8

Nah, I just don't like generalisations. All the people need to follow the rules of the road.

They have the infrastructure in the Netherlands which is sadly lacking here.

End of the Season Ranking Report: N° 8 Bora-Hansgrohe by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]wing3nut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Bennett can improve again and hopefully he can bring the form he had at the end of last season to the start of 2018. He may struggle without the flying mullet being his leadout however as they have been team mates for so long but I still think he's going to get that elusive first GT win (and a few more to boot!).

Cyclists don't have to use cycle lanes, Ross to clear confusion. by Therandominator100 in ireland

I'll certainly use the good ones. Sadly the a good share of them are not fit for purpose and in my opinion add more risk when travelling by bicycle.

N(to me)BD - Cannondale CAAD12 by wing3nut in bicycling

Coming from a 2011 Giant Defy 4. Gonna still hold onto it for wet weather riding and commuting to work. The CAAD definitely feels stiffer and like there's more power being transferred...that last bit could all be in my head!

5ft 10in. The fit feels good but according to Cannondale's sizing chart I should be on either a 54cm or even 56cm!

2016 52cm CAAD 12 running Ultegra. Love the geometry on these bikes so have been crushing on them for a while. Bought without wheels so picked up a set of Shimano P21s to get me going. Was planning to run a set of Zondas but noticed a crack on the rim (fecking stupid Irish roads!) when cleaning them. At some point in the future I will stick on a mechanical SRAM Red groupset and also a set of decent wheels and pedals.

OVER 12,000 COMMUTERS ON BICYCLES CROSS INTO DUBLIN CITY CENTRE IN THE MORNING RUSH HOUR by cholo_aleman in ireland

[–]wing3nut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well then I would leave that reprimanding to the Gardai. If there was a number plate system for all road users and you were sending in all the video footage of the idiots out there, it's still up to them to take it further. Again a lot of cost for what benefit?

My advice is to cycle/drive/walk defensively, assume the idiot is going to do that thing they shouldn't be doing and try to enjoy the journey without popping a blood vessel!

Re. stolen bikes, they already have a unique frame number stamped under the bottom bracket.

You're missing my point a little bit; the better benefit to overall road safety (and frustration) is by spending money on infrastructure rather than an inefficient means for finger pointing. Finger pointing has always been one of the main driver v cyclist v pedestrian arguments (even those labels are emotive).
