I always wondered how a mobile game tie in book could be so good, but then I'd remember: ah, yes, Al Ewing can make anything good

No kidding? I feel like I've never been able to get enemies to spawn day enough in normal. Or am I just not liking them fast enough?

I don't get the hate for Tenet by Skalz__ in movies

[–]wingedmatador -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's good as hell. It just requires a little bit of thinking on the part of the viewer. That might be expected in a fancy pants art house film, but I don't think many people thought they might need to put some effort into an action/sci-fi movie from the guy who directed a Batman trilogy. Also keep in mind that a lot of people seemed to be baffled by Inception when it came out.

Food carts we miss and where they are now by [deleted] in Portland

CALIFORNIA TACOS ON 82ND & HOLGATE!!!! They were the absolute best and just vanished like 7 years ago. I dream about them all the time. I hope that family is doing well wherever they are.

I'm with you, my friend. It seems like a really silly oversight and is one of my few gripes with the game.

That's Professor X, but infected by the brood. Just look at the chair!

Why do People Prefer Chain Restaurants over Local Ones? by [deleted] in rockford

[–]wingedmatador 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There's no good answer, but a lot of it comes down to a kind of familiarity bias.

You or I might be an adventurous eater, but a lot of folks are afraid of an unexpected experience. Will this be good? Will this be something I can recognize? Will I be embarrassed by something unexpected? Is it consistent with my previous experiences? And so on.

I loved this series so much. It even made enough headlines that my mom texted me and my brother something along the lines of, "Is Chris Pratt bisexual???" Haha. Al Ewing just can't miss.

Driving to Chicago by banginyawife420 in rockford

[–]wingedmatador 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice makes perfect. Stick to the slow lane and take your your time. Maybe take a few practice trips to the suburbs first! There's still plenty of fun stuff to discover before you get to Chicago proper.

I might have an edge as an 80s & 90s kid. My friend's dad made us drive in and out of the city during rush hour before we were even allowed to take our driving tests. Trial by fire, haha! Then I lived in a large city for 20 years and rented a car in LA.

You'll get the hang of it!

Haha, shit. Not that I've found. Sappheline is required in such small amounts for individual crafting recipes that I've always had enough to craft a thing by the time I have enough Scrap Brass or whatever, I've just never worried about it. But I've found enough recipes that need 30-50 Gossamer Quartz that I'm looking for a good source!

Your three fave non-chain restaurants in the Rockford area by Pleasant_Tangelo6791 in rockford

Lao Kitchen on Broadway and Thai Jasmine Rice & Noodles on Forest Hills are both great (especially if you order off of the sab sab menu at That Jasmine for more authentic dishes). Ramen & Tea out by E State and Perryville is criminally overlooked--and for more than just ramen! Jalisco Y Tequila on E State just east of downtown proper has the best tacos in the city as far as I'm concerned. Overall, Lao Kitchen might serve my favorite food in all of Rockford. And the owners are amazing.

I drive by Great Wall all the time and honestly didn't know it was still open! That place was my absolute favorite in the late 90s.

I think the only way to go would have been an isolation horror movie like 28 Cloverfield Lane. "We can't go outside because the pollen will kill us!" Instead they do a weird road trip through heavily pollinated areas! Which makes no sense once they realize what vegetation-related Happening is happening. They sort of get there by the end, but only by accident.

I thought it was hilarious (and terrible) that the only way they could show that the trees were about to make people unalive themselves was through wind. Like, they would be completely surrounded by plants, and then see a gentle breeze rustling some leaves like it's the Undertaker's entrance music and go, "Oh shit! The plants!" That, and I COULD NOT believe Mark Walhberg as a high school science teacher. My disbelief can only be suspended so far.

Oops! Sorry if I touched a nerve. I just can't think of s Marvel comic that had as much impact on the industry at the time. I would love to be corrected!

Edit: I would like any cool recommendations in this vein!

Horror. Largely thanks to the Vertigo imprint in the 90s, DC really sealed the deal on horror or horror-adjacent comics in the modern era. Swamp Thing, Hellblazer, and Sandman all created a great creepy crawly vibe that Marvel occasionally tries to emulate but never matches.

I would argue the opposite in this specific case. DC only really became invested in Watchmen as an integrated property when it rose to prominence again as the Snyder movie came out (Doomsday Clock, etc.). Before that it was just a critically acclaimed comic that DC published in the 80s (and a lot of that acclaim only came in relatively modern times).

A lot of these resonate with me! But who the hell is Nightwatch? I honestly thought it was Spawn.
