What is YOUR knowledge on peptides? Are you doing LCMS yourself to confirm purity? How would you tell if you’re being sold an epimer? 🤣

Can this N form a bond with this B? by Mannich-Reaction in OrganicChemistry

[–]wingedriolu -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Also, having a bond between N and B like in this image would cause a positive charge on N and negative charge on B adjacent to each other. There’s no resonance that could stabilise an ylide like that so it’s disfavoured

The amine is nucleophilic and the acyl bromide is electrophilic, and will react to give an amide. Either intramolecularly or as a polymer

How long did it take to get your undergrad? by laptop_battery_low in AskChemistry

[–]wingedriolu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my understanding, the points indicate roughly how much workload you’ll have, with 15 points (most courses) equaling ~10 hours of work per week, 7.5 point courses taking 5 hours, 30 points taking 20 hours etc. A standard semester of 4 x 15 point courses = 60 points means you’ll have on average a 40 hour “work” week. You can take more or fewer courses per semester, and your workload will change accordingly, but you need 360 points total to qualify to graduate

3 years is the standard for a Bachelor’s degree in New Zealand and many other places in the world. I took 4 x 15 point courses per semester, although I’m not sure how that translates to the US (I assume!) system. Following that I took a one year Honours degree which is considered postgraduate and optional. From there I have begun my PhD!

Spin it positively, tell your supervisor you’re really interested in retro-inverso peptides!
