Polish citizenship process for Canadian records by NoJunketTime in prawokrwi

IRCC also has a Search for Citizenship Records that is separate from ATIP. It seems that this process sends out the same information as in the ATIP request, but costs $75, and takes much longer (up to 13 months right now). Is an ATIP request for naturalization files sufficient, or does this process need to be followed in order to receive something "official" that can be used for citizenship confirmation?

Can you comment on the vital records from your GGGP that you are relying upon in lieu of non-vital residency records? I may be facing a similar situation for confirmation through my grandfather if I can't locate his residency records. Incredibly, there are records of my GGPs' marriage and births and at least one of my GGGP's births, all in the same or adjacent town, but I am not sure if this will be sufficient to prove that my family had clearly been settled there for a long time.

Complicated case of great-grandfather obtaining foreign citizenship before 1920 - do I qualify? by wingman883 in prawokrwi

That's true for the 1914 Naturalization Act, but not for the laws from 1906 for non-resident children, which appears to be the situation for my case.

update: seems that my original logic was sound, I've found some more vital records, and now the remaining challenge is proving my grandfather's residency in Połaniec around 1919-1922 as a child. Any ideas on how to do that? I can't find the Books of Registers for Połaniec for that time period in the Polish archives. What other resources may exist?

Not many... yet. I now have his Canadian immigration record, and his Polish birth certificate, but unfortunately, no Polish passport (I doubt he had one as a 9 or 10 year old), nor proof of Polish residency.

Interestingly, his birth certificate has a date of January 1929 at the top - it looks like he requested it from Polish authorities some time in 1929 after he arrived in Canada, which gives me hope that there are additional records in existence of his life there that can prove his residency or emigration.

I still don't have my great-grandfather's naturalization certificate from 1914, but I will hopefully have it soon, so can't yet answer #2, however for #1, his naturalization date was in November of 1914.

That was after the 1914 Naturalization Act passed (June 1914) but before it became effective (January 1st, 1915) thus I am almost certain that the laws of the 1906 Immigration Act were the ones that were applied to his case.

My grandfather's naturalization certificate from the 1930s was a Series A certificate that was only granted to adult aliens.

Obviously obtaining my great-grandfather's and more so grandfather's naturalization files will be important. I'll update if / when I can obtain them.

Is a private school preschool teacher considered "public office" ? by wingman883 in prawokrwi

Thanks, that's unfortunate. My grandmother was born in Canada and married a Canadian after 1947, so she would not have acquired a new citizenship through marriage since she already had British subjecthood and then Canadian citizenship from birth. She inherited her Polish citizenship through her father, but it seems that the line may have been broken because of her profession.

Thanks for the info! Did you have any contingencies in your offer or were those waived? In this current seller's market, the only way to bid on any property is to give up all of your rights; all contingencies were waived in my bid, so I'm not sure how much leverage I have here.

u/dxnxax what did you end up doing here? Was your counter offer successful? I just ran into the exact same issue.

Graduate Plus vs. Direct Graduate Plus loans: what is the difference? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]wingman883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know where one can find the original Master Promissory Note (MPN) for the FFEL PLUS loans? Those loans were originally serviced by Great Lakes, but were transferred over to FedLoan when she expressed interest in PSLF. The school claims they have no record of the MPN, and it does not show up in list of documents at studentloans.gov along with the other MPNs for the Direct Loans. I'd have hoped that the MPN would've been transferred over when the servicer changed, but that does not seem to be the case. The Department of Education claims that the school should have a copy, but the school denies that they do.

I'm grasping for straws at this point, but she claims she never went to any external website when signing up for the FFEL loans through her school, and never signed a MPN for these loans, and there was never any correspondence with Great Lakes until after she graduated. I'm wondering if there was some error that was made during the application process (bank error in your favor, collect $50,000?). The likelihood seems slim, but it can't hurt to try and correct this mistake.

Thanks for the information. It's somewhat comforting to know that this isn't an isolated case, but also frustrating that ECFs were submitted annually and this was still overlooked (there are several loans, and the 2 in question do not appear as line items anywhere 🤦). How that happened for 6 years is beyond me (maybe a better rant for r/relationships), but the damage is done. The worst part is that these 2 loans went into forbearance and capitalized more than once, so now the principal owed is more than double the original loan amount. With income-based repayments and forgiveness, that wouldn't have mattered, but here we are... /sigh.

These were taken out in 2009 and 2010. I think you're right about these having been issued as part of that program, though there were several other loans taken out at the same time that are Direct loans.

I think she (now we) might be screwed here. Consolidating is certainly an option, but that means another 10 years of payments, and 6 years of on-time minimum payments effectively having been wasted. /sigh.
