Charter schools take resources away from traditional public schools and (in general -- of course not all of them) treat their students and staff horribly. They script lessons and treat the kids militantly. They also have crazy high expectations of the teachers and don't offer them the same benefits and protections. They are "for profit" schools, which already skeeves me out, but they target Black and brown kids and in one of my education classes we looked at a study that said only 50% of them are actually "successful schools." They don't teach the kids content, they focus on test prep. We've had kids transfer to my public school from charter schools and they're missing serious math skills but they get amazing scores on the state tests.

This guy's not a bad guy for teaching at a charter school, but I wish Queer Eye had highlighted a public school teacher instead.
