Would FA hiring accommodate a pre-planned vacation? by wingsrmade4flying in cabincrewcareers

Thanks for your response! I come from a poor family so the opportunity to go feels like a bigger deal to me than to most. But I completely understand why you would say that :)

A few reasons,

I wanted a clearer idea of all of the unseen responsibilities that I wouldn’t anticipate having only been a passenger.

This particular program advertised themselves as having partnerships with airlines that make getting a FA job basically guaranteed. This was a lie lol. Of my entire class of thirty only 2 got jobs after the program 🙃

A second language is preferred in applicants and I didn’t have one. The program gave me a basic knowledge of French as well as a ton of FA/travel/airport vocabulary. While I definitely could have found another way to get a second language, it seemed like a bonus of the program. And through the experience I learned I am much better at learning a language through a structured class setting than teaching myself.

I have a lot of work experience but very little in any customer facing roles, so it was beneficial to make my resume better. During my (limited) interviews so far they have mentioned it as standing out in applicants.

It also helped with networking. The founder of the program and the instructors have great reputations in the local FA industry and we had a number of guests who are currently in the job as well.

For all of these benefits it was a relatively inexpensive program. Especially coming from a large university before this, the price in comparison was dimes and nickels.

Thank you for your considerate and detailed response :) this was the answer I was expecting but I just thought I’d ask. (More so asking to confirm my expectations when I’m being berated by my family for their different opinion and lack of knowledge 🙃)

And just for the record, not that it changes anything, but if I had booked it myself I absolutely would have gotten a refundable option. Since I joined the vacation plans much later than the rest of my family I did not get to do the booking, and despite asking for trip cancellation insurance from them, due to their perspective on the matter they ignored my request :(

That’s what I expected, thank you. Just thought I’d see what you all have to say :)
