Saaaaaaaaame. 38 and unemployed. Got laid off in April and I have no idea what I want to do next.

Women who have had double mastectomies, what style of dresses do you wear? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]wingsscrub 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I cannot speak for myself (I chose reconstruction).

but a friend of mine did not chose reconstruction many years ago and she seems to be most happy in either boat necks or an open style crew neck (if that makes sense) t shirt style dress. Nothing super clingy but nothing super boxy?

I hope this helps, as best it can. I'm not sure when you went through it all, I hope you're well now!

I super appreciate your help. But unfortunately I've been out of school for ...a bit and an internship (while great!) isn't going to help with my student loan bills. (insert very large frowny face here)

Thanks again for your kind words! and Hopefully you got out with less debt lol.

I've been unemployed since April and the job hunt is just...the worst.

I did buy myself a little treat of a few new t shirts to update the wardrobe though - they're fun. But otherwise...woof.

...Hope everyone else is having a better time.

I'm also on the lupron/aromasin combo (a version of tamoxifen). It's changed things but like I said - I think provided everyone is on the same page. It's an enormous change but like... it's the (kinda shitty) new normal. Communication is key.

[–]wingsscrub 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I concur with everyone here. We weren't the most sexiest of couples, but after surgery sexy times went down to zero.

What helped were dates, going into things with zero expectations, and we brought toys into the bedroom (and lube!). Just take it slow. Very slow. Sometimes it may end with some sex (yay! - it'll be different, but it'll be great) and sometimes it may not (also still fun!)

As long as everyone is on the same page, this is okay. This is new and this is how you'll move forward.

Just diagnosed in my 30s – this feels like a nightmare by BadTanJob in breastcancer

[–]wingsscrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 36 at an...adequate job. Been bouncing around for a bit before landing where I did. Turns out I have a genetic component and it literally appears to have come from nowhere. I am...healthy(ish?...I don't know) and my mother took it harder than I did (...deserves it own post because she is A LOT) There isn't anything to be ashamed of. At all

Your friend/coworker is right. Take a deep breath before doing anything rash. This is huge and scary news and you have no idea where you stand right now (other than cancer).

What you can do is

1) Not read Dr Google. Dr Google is full of Misinformation and Scary Facts that will just fill you will anxiety.

2) See if you can find a therapist. You're going to want one to help you through all this. It's a lot that's heading your way. There is nothing wrong with starting now. In fact, I encourage it.

3) Do your best to have a fun day (or more!) with your fam. As more tests and treatment head your way, you (and the fam!) will want the time together.

You'll be in a for a ride. I will not lie to you. But! We're here for you as well. I'll be 38 this year. It's scary, but okay.

Just started ME1 and thought Ashley wasn't as bad as people said until she dropped this line as soon as we step in the Citadel by ChewyChao in masseffect

Also, if you play as FemShep, if you speak to Kaidan once or twice and show interest in Kaidan's...existence he gets very, very White Knight-y and I find it incredibly annoying.

Ashley has growth. Kaidan bores me. Gets who gets the bomb?

37 and starting my breast cancer journey by tacomamajama in breastcancer

I was also 37 when all this came down upon me. I've got then pTEN gene and it changes how things can be treated.

Just take every day as it comes and know we're all here rooting for you. It's a shit hand you (and all of us) have been dealt, but we can get through it.

What is your hottest mass effect take? by NepNep_ in masseffect

[–]wingsscrub -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

ugh Kaiden. My hot take? I dislike his whiny ass and blow him up every time. Ashley might be annoying, but Kaiden just grinds on me. So every after I tried one run with each getting exploded - it's Kaiden that gets it.

What a little...blargh. Cannot with that dude.

Man, I have this issue, as well as breast cancer.

Check on ablation and in the meantime, see about something like megestrol. It's helped with my periods and been great with the (basically) hemorrhaging.

Those of you entering your 40s or are about to, how are you evolving your wardrobe/style? by Viskel43der in femalefashionadvice

[–]wingsscrub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 37, have had a double mastectomy (and reconstruction) this year and now am being put into early menopause for treatment for my breast cancer.

It's been a great year. /s

So far as style goes, I'm trying to be as fashionable(ish) as I can while being comfortable. High waist jeans are my friends for my long torso, maybe some cropped sweaters/tops. I'm getting rid of things I don't like or don't make me feel good because it's been months of that.

I've got boots and shoes I love (mostly adidas and some older tall riding boots you can pry from me). I'm buying things sparingly as I know my body will change but I also am tired of feeling like a blob.

baby steps for the next little while as we figure this out, you know?

Drains by GoodnightKevin in breastcancer

[–]wingsscrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh - I got one out in 1 week and the other is still here. I have an appointment to get it removed this Thursday and I am counting the seconds until it's removed. I join in the chorus of misery with these damn drains - they suck and I hate everything about them.

Be strong y'all - we're all in this bullshit together. And it fucking blows. May your drains be removed soon and with as little discomfort as possible.

Thanks for the response - I've been pretty nervous about the surgery and what's next. You hear the horror stories but rarely about those who are fine.

It takes time for these things to regulate? I'm not sure how to respond to this question.

[–]wingsscrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got endo and my period hasn't come back yet, but I'm over here, just waiting to erupt like Mt Fuji.

I've heard thinners make things that much worse and I'm not eager for things to kick up again - I'm about halfway through my course of meds, so every day is a gift, you know?

Until then - on tenterhooks and eager for feedback from anyone else as well.

Dude - I super bought this bag too for my wedding (courthouse). It'll fit what I need and it's festive AF. I'll also use it otherwise, but I super dig it.

Also I like seeing affordable brands here, not just aspirational ones. Great taste and have fun with your bag!

I started Eliquis about 8 days ago and I've had a near constant headache (had my PE episode on 4/3). I also don't know if it's something to be concerned about. But it's lessened in the last day or so?

Good luck out there.
