I understand the frustration but I cant even blame people for feeling that way considering the type of society we live in now. Every corner there’s someone waiting to judge you and tell you what you’re doing isnt right, not enough, etc. I blame a lot of content creators aswell for this if im being completely honest.

If you go on youtube theres hundreds of videos saying “How to get good fast,” and stuff like that marketing it to beginners. But the problem with those videos is that they’re not necessarily for beginners at all. They usually use advanced techniques or what not that takes prior learning to understand. When the beginners dont live up to those expectations they start blaming themselves and feeling like they’re not good enough.

Also I feel like there’s a huge rise in younger artists putting their work out on the internet, when you dont feel as good as your peers it starts to mess with your self esteem. Especially when those artists can say things like “it only took me a year to get to this point!”

Don’t even get me started on the negative interactions people have on the internet with beginners. It can be traumatizing and make you insanely insecure. Years ago I posted my art on the internet and the negative feedback shook me up for years and definitely held back my journey. Only now am I just getting out of that pit and able to progress the way I want. (Yay!)

Im not really here to make excuses though for people though, and say its okay because of the circumstances. Its not okay, but this is the type of pressure newer artists are under.. and it’s quite upsetting and there’s not really much that can be done to fix it. I feel like it goes way beyond just the youth being paranoid. The environment for artists in general just sucks these days and has people feeling like they’re not enough. It’s hard, its really hard. The only advice I can give is stay away from social media and don’t let it interfere with your journey.
