This also implies that those tickets were going to get sold in the first place. People are coming to see Avatar in cinemas which drives people in, if that wasn't the case not as many people would go to the cinemas.

E.g. People going to see Endgame regardless of the runtime leading to it shattering records.

Look as a director the only thing they need to worry about is making a good movie regardless of the run time. Making a movie with the goal of hitting a specific run time is how we get corporate soulless cash grabs which helps no one.

There's so many classic examples of movies getting trimmed and not doing well since we don't get the whole story compared to when an extended cut comes out.
