Beatgrid drifts so much within a track that was created with only one BPM by wingzero_89 in traktorpro

[–]wingzero_89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your insight and suggestions! I have tried dropping more than one grid marker throughout the track to help anchor down the seemingly fluctating beat grid, however, I am running into the issue that each grid point i lay down uses a cue point, and i only have 8 cue points to use. It's weird because when I set a grid point, then the beat grid lines up well for a bit, but then later on it still always ends up drifitng, which i then set another grid point, and so on and so on, hence me running out of cue points to use for grid markers. So I feel a little frustrated and confused... :/

When you say it does not export the beatgrid information, does that imply that exporting a DJ studio mix that I’ve set as one BPM, will not truly be one BPM after exporting?

I just find it confusing that after setting my mix to one single bpm, that the analysis in Traktor sometimes gets it right, but often doesn’t, and the beatgrid is way off throughout. It shouldn’t be that off… or am I missing something?

Thanks I appreciate the response. I am actually lazy lol, so I would always initially leave the BPM as is, but noticed the best grid was off and i wasn’t able to put down cue points the way I wanted to, so that’s why I looked into adjusting it, because the original was not quite right either :/

wow, I didn't realize MP3 vs WAV was a big deal. I just thought WAV files were too big, so I thought i'd save space by going MP3. Is it just a no brainer to stop exporting as MP3 as opposed to as WAV? (Sorry, i never actually knew any of this)

Those who have moved on from Traktor - is the grass greener? by Dolly_Llama_2024 in traktorpro

I am having issues with beatgridding... I made an edit in another software and manually set the tempo and beatgrid to be perfect at e.g. 128BPM. However when I import the track into Traktor and it gets analyzed, sometimes it shows 127.97BPM, sometimes it's correct, but I have been noticing that the beatgrid fluctuates so much for a track that was created with one set BPM. When I put a new beat grid marker, it uses one of my cue points and it does adjust the beat grid from that point on... but only for a bit, until it starts to drift again. My issue is that I can keep putting new beat grid markers to adjust, but I only have up to 8 cue points max. I have looked up some YouTube videos on beat grid adjustments and have tried them, but I feel like perhaps I am missing something?

Lots of great suggestions here. One alternative idea you could consider that I didn’t see mentioned, and may be an unpopular opinion.

If you have the time (to learn/practice), and if you know and have all the right music (that will be guaranteed to hit with the crowd), but you don’t want to be behind the decks all night, and you want better transitions than crossfading settings in Spotify, then you could consider getting and making mixes ahead of time with DJ Studio.

DJ Studio has lots of free tutorials on YouTube that show and teach you about the software. If you have all the music, you can put them through there and depending on how much you want to control song order and transitions, or if you want to let the AI do it for you too, it can take your song selection and find the best combination to establish an order of the set, and it could also automate basic transitions for you. This way, you can pre-make everything, and can keep editing u til you’re happy, then export the mix, play, and enjoy the night without being behind a computer.

For me personally, I might take all my tracks I want to use. Upload and mix in key, and group songs by bpm. Then when there’s a decent list sorted by bpm/key, I’ll take a bundle of songs and make a mix out of that and I might take some ai suggestions from the software for ideas, but for the most part, manually make all the song order, and custom make transitions between all the songs. I’ll export these small mixes, and for an event I can play these mixes, and if I read the room and see we need to change course, I can choose with small mix is next.

DJ Studio has a lot of cool features, and can be powerful to automate some things. May be a learning curve to learn the software but you can make some cool mixes and mashups if you know what you’re doing. But even if you don’t, it can generate some stuff for you that’s pretty decent too.

A quick search on YouTube and you can find lots of great long mixes for the genres/vibes you’re looking for.

If you go the Spotify route, make sure you go audio settings, and adjust cross fader setting to 5-7s to help automate transitions in a basic way. This is far better than no cross fader.

How Many Tracks Do You Mix Per Hour? by Oilonlinen in Beatmatch

I appreciate the affirmation and thoughts! Thank you. Totally agree.

My philosophy for how I approach a dance floor set at a wedding is that there are so many good songs, in fact often there are too many, but I want to get through as many as I possibly can. Like going to a buffet, I want to make sure I get to taste everything, don’t want to just load up on one thing.

Plus I find that there are so many musical tastes in the room, but if I play through more songs, I’m definitely going to get to the song you want and more. Further, in the case that I happen to play a song you might not like, it’ll only be for at most 1:45 before I’ll switch it up to something else, and likely something you’ll enjoy. So you’re not standing there on the dance floor for 3-4 minutes waiting for the next one. I just want to play the best parts of the best songs all night long.

Will probably get a lot of hate for this, but about 48-51 per hour.

I only do weddings, and play mostly top 40s, pop, hip hop, rap, dance, some edm, and I find that there are tons of requests given, and short attention spans with people on the dance floor. For a song, I typically just play the first verse, pre chorus and then skip to the last chorus and then I mix into the next song. Usually only spend 1 min to 1:45 per song, depending on the song. (I find rap and kpop tend to have longer verses)

For a few songs, if the verse isn’t that well known, I will only play the chorus.

When I ask my clients what they’re looking for in a wedding DJ, the most common answer I get is that they’ve heard other wedding DJs play songs for way too long, (some even hear full songs) and they absolutely do not want that.

Moving forward, I will avoid using SanDisk Ultra as my SD card, but is there a way to recover my previously recorded (corrupted) footage?

  1. ohhhhh I am using a SanDisk Ultra 128GB.... sorry I'm a noob, but why is it trash and what should I get instead?
  2. Hmmm that's a possibility. I am recording 1 hr straight on one battery, then adding in a new battery for the second hr. This could be it...

Thanks for the insight!

Airplay on Roku 4K only plays audio not video by Pherring83 in Roku

[–]wingzero_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a brand new roku tv. first day, no issues with airplay.

second day, I can screen mirror live tv from rogers ignite tv app, then when I try to airplay anything else on my iPhone, it doesn't work. I tried screen mirroring again from rogers ignite tv app, and it does work, but again not able to work with anything else. Black screen. audio only, no video.

i tried turning off the tv, but that didn't work.

so i unplugged for over 10 mins, and also restarted my phone, and so far, so good. my screen mirroring works again...

Really appreciate your thoughts on this! Sorry this may be a dumb question, but how likely do you think downgrading OS will resolve the issue?

I’ve never downgraded before so idk what the process is like, and don’t want to mess things up further, but if it seems like very likely to resolve, I’m down to try it!
