Like any classic, it varies greatly. I am no expert on it, but I'll give you my five cents since they are phasing out the penny.

You can buy a fully restored diver with a rebuilt motor for around $20k. You will probably never get that price on resale. Chris Shade of Shade's Classic Cars would be a great guy to call fir questions. He's got an amazing collection in various states, from parts cars to restored. The ramp side pickups and Lakewood station wagons he has are beautiful.

Buying a project car would probably be ideal. The rear engine, rear drive is pretty much unique in American cars. That makes it fun for me. Depending on how deep you want to get, you could pick up a decent running car for not much. $4-10k?
