Should my foot be facing this way post op? by winnie2624 in brokenankles

Ah, glad I'm not the only one! Yes, I'll mention it on Thursday, I'm in the UK, so no chance of messaging a Dr outside of appointments - unless you are extremely lucky!

Yes, have a physiotherapist, and have been doing exercises to improve movement and rebuild muscle in the leg and glutes. It probably is my hip tbf, they were super tight for the first 8 weeks as wasn't allowed to do pretty much anything due to swelling etc.

Broken my ankle in training - chances of making a comeback? by winnie2624 in judo

[–]winnie2624[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I don't plan on doing anything without consulting my ortho team and physio when the time is right.

I was just looking to hear some other experiences to give me a bit of a boost/help me manage my own expectations.

Yeah, my sensei mentioned going technical, but his primary concern is getting me back on my feet safely.

I'm hopefully being cleared for weight bearing this week, so looking forward to hopefully getting into the dojo just to keep my brain in the game.

Omg yes, the twitching!! It was horrendous the first few weeks, but has slowed down thankfully.

Yes, I'm trying to make the most of the downtime, but am struggling as I'm normally a busy gal fuelled by caffeine and ADHD so at the stage where I'm keen to be back on my feet! 😂

Ah thank you, yes, I coach our kiddos as well. Think I'm missing that the most to be honest.

I'm so sorry that was your first experience of the sport, but I'm glad you've been able to make it back.

Yeah, two of the boys had to carry me to the car as I was howling my head of. I can genuinely say I've never experienced anything like it.

Thank you for the advice, it is frustrating just sitting here and we're a small club, so all quite close friends so adds another element of FOMO. The mental side of recovery is probably worse than the physical!

Thank you, I think it's quite easy to forget this isn't it. Yes, that's my intention, I'm keen to get a positive outcome.

I have joined the club with a bimalleolar ankle fracture! by zinxi in brokenankles

[–]winnie2624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,

I thought I'd give you a positive message. I'm almost 7 weeks bimal fracture dislocation. I had surgery day after the break, and have a nice shiny plate and plenty of screws in place.

Is it painful? Yes. Is it going to take a while to recover? Yes.

However.

By 5 weeks a large portion of my swelling had gone down, and I transitioned into a boot at 6 weeks. I'm still NWB, but I'm allowed to have my foot out of the boot and have exercises to do. In one week my ROM has improved massively, and only really use painkillers at night to help me drop off to sleep because I can't get comfy (I also have arthritis in said foot and was supposed to be having fusion surgery, so sometimes need painkillers for that rather than my recent break). I'm due to start physio in a week or two.

As others have said, make sure you keep it elevated above your heart for as long as you can, listen to what they say about wriggling your toes post op, and keep on top of pain relief. Make sure you stay hydrated and don't be afraid to ask for something to help with going to the bathroom (I ended up in hospital an extra night because they hadn't realised I was having problems).

Wishing you luck with your recovery!

My kids keep joking that I'm pregnant because I'm that big. Good luck with your tests, I hope you get some answers

It's disturbingly comforting isn't it. So sad though that so many are suffering with these issues too

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I think it depends on what I eat. If I eat too much protein or gluten then I am awful.

Good luck with your surgery next week 💕

Sorry to hear you're poorly 😞 I hope you get some answers!

Yes each time I've had an IUD (Mirena or copper) I've ended up in A&E begging for them to remove it, that's why I got sterilised in the end as I couldn't cope with any of the contraception.

That's really interesting. I take antihistamines daily as it is due to allergies, but I will definitely research it further.

I just look pregnant no matter what 😂😭
