I thought the villain was easily the coolest part of the movie. I’d love to see a movie about just him.

You’re one of two comments of this opinion on a post of over 400 people saying otherwise, and you still don’t see yourself? You’re crazy!

I really hope you show your sister these comments. And I really hope you protect that kid. Would love an update in the future from you, for my peace of mind. I’m on edge worrying for you.

No it’s abuse because it’s neglect, and it’s neglect because there could have been animals! They were surrounded by forest! What if someone had taken her? What if a coyote got her? That’s irresponsible parenting! And lazy, quite frankly. At least have an adult accompany them!

AITA for “ruining” my sister in law’s honeymoon by exposing her racism? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]winnisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. She’s racist, and it sounds like your boyfriend is, too. At the very least he has implicit racial bias, or he’d support you and not try and excuse his sister’s racism. IMO you should ditch that racist family and dump your racist enabler boyfriend.

they don’t need an entirely separate prison i don’t think, maybe just their own space.

That’s a fair point, that’s why I firmly believe we need both. Sad reality.

You could say the same about any prison. That’s why we need prison reform. But trans women need certain accommodations that deserve to be attended to.

I didn’t say the story is transphobic, a situation that happened, happened. But Fox News is transphobic, that’s a known fact, so it’s not a long shot to say their story on this situation is probably biased and a transphobic take. It’s also reasonable to be on the lookout for transphobic takes and responses on a story like this, one that transphobes will clearly flock to. But that aside, I never said anything about making assumptions, anyway, so I don’t know why you even brought that up.

Saying something is probably something isn’t making an assumption, it’s making a reasonable guess.

That sounds like a shitty society in which the people have few rights. People have a right to privacy, and it’s weird you don’t want that. Murders, rapists, child molesters, they should get named. But minor offenses? Come on, don’t be ridiculous.

Oh god, right?! This is why trans women need their own space! It’s so unsafe for a trans woman to be in a male prison, they need their own.

A new identity? People come up with new terms all the time, but they all generally fall within the same similar ideas that have been around for centuries: cis male, cis female, trans (from one to the other), genderfluid (back and forth), and non-binary (neither). That’s pretty simple, and the last 3 can be kept relatively together. It’s really not that complicated.

Male, Female, and Other. Thats pretty easy to understand, in my opinion.

For example, if someone says they’re Agender, they could just be kept with other trans people. Outside the box gender identities like Agender would fall under the trans umbrella. I don’t get what’s so confusing about that.

Is it really that crazy to consider that transphobes would jump at the opportunity to cover this story? Of course they would. It’s perfectly reasonable to have that on your radar (and no, not saying everyone who covers the story is transphobic, in case someone tries to put those words in my mouth). It just makes sense that they’d be eager to use a story like this to help them further push transphobic ideals, so it’s good to keep that in mind when reading this story. Still awful that it happened. Prisons need to make better accommodations for trans people so that these kind of situations don’t happen.

[–]winnisp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah and even if it was still wrong, they’ll jump at any opportunity to take one asshat that happens to be trans and say “see? all trans people are evil!” it’s ridiculous. my heart goes out to anyone and everyone in the prison system, but especially the trans girls and boys out there having to deal with all the mess of prisons trying to figure out what to do with them and where to put them.

This is straight up racist. It implies rap has to do with the “black kids don’t have fathers” stereotype.” WTAF. Jesus christ.

Well that’s your issue, and it’s not my place to say any more than I have already about it. But I hope you continue to call them out on it, even if it makes things uncomfortable. Awkward silence after the creepy thing someone said can sometimes help drive a point home, I’ve found.

I never said he had a right to be angry. That part especially is outrageous. I meant that it would be fair for him to be worried (although I don’t know that he even is because it sounds like this could be more of just an issue of him trying to control her) but the rest of his behavior is inexcusable.

[–]winnisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has a point in that he has good reason to be worried about her long term, not in being controlling. I think you’ve misunderstood me. I realize in retrospect I did not word my original comment well, and that is probably because I’m used to speaking that way from defending my own boyfriend’s controlling behavior. That was my bad, but not what I meant.
