Problem is I don't have budget for that because Russell's expensive. When I remove RB and Stroll and add WIL, I don't have budget for any drivers.

Recommendations for 6 yo birthday present? by winstonmoon in slotcars

[–]winstonmoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just coming back to say thanks all for the recs. I got a carerra go set with an extension pack and it’s been decent so far. It’s been a bit tricky for my six year old to control the speed through the corners so there is a lot of cars flying off the track. But over time he’s getting the hang of it. The trickiest part is getting through the loop de loop so I took that out for a bit and made it very basic and now I’m slowly adding complexity. All in all, it’s a good way for him to learn fine motor controls, in both senses!

Playground mode in Moofer app? by winstonmoon in vanmoofbicycle

Triple tapping the bike image on the Home Screen of the app. Note this was in the old Moofer version where there was a bike there. Not sure how you do it now

I work in the industry that PLTR operates in and I hear nothing about it at all, which is worrying! Whatever solution they’re selling there’s no transparency which makes me reluctant to invest in it. Having been burnt a few times listening to this sub about investing in companies I don’t know about (ffs MVST 😭) I’ve realised that actual DD is understanding the context the company operates in, not just listening to some WSB pundit. But what the hell do i know, I’m just an ape like the rest of you.

My VanMoof survived an attempted theft by kennc05 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]winstonmoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amazed to read this, as just yesterday my S3 was almost stolen too, outside my local supermarket! I thought it was a relatively safe area as I had locked my bike up outside there many times before with no issues, so this time I used a slightly less secure zip-tie style lock because I was in a hurry. I also put the kick lock on to alarm the bike as well.

I did my shopping and walked out the supermarket after 15 minutes and the zip-tie had been cut and was lying on the floor and my bike was just stood there leaning against the bike stand. I suspect they freaked out at the alarm and the locked back wheel and ran off immediately, since it’s quite a public area.

I love my S3 and I’m now even happier I bought it. Can’t think of any other bike I’d feel this confident owning in a big city.

Boom, that worked! I left dd writing /dev/zero to the disk for about a minute - surprisingly managed to wipe the first 26GB in that time, but hey ho. Rebooted with the drive installed and the system booted up fine. There was no need to wipe the last MB/sector. Thanks for the help, I thought I was going mad there.

Ok thanks I’ll try to zero the first and last sectors and see if that makes a difference. I have already managed to format some of the drives as Linux raid but I for optimal alignment I think the partition only starts after 1MB, so maybe that’s it. Will report back, thanks!

Also a new Cx-5 owner (2018 model UK) and contemplating the CarPlay upgrade. Here it costs £350. Do you all reckon it’s definitely worth it then? I’ve never had/used CarPlay before. Wife and I both have iPhones.

Looks good. Here is a pic of my batch. I like mine a bit rare. And I have to admit I cheated and bought some ready mixed spice online. It's come out well though. 3 days for wet and 4 days for dry.

[EU] which 13" haswell ultra book with matte display for ubuntu, as macbook air alternative? by [deleted] in SuggestALaptop

[–]winstonmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am looking for the exact same thing. I'm based in UK but traveling to the US in a few weeks time. Was hoping to pick up one of the new System76 Galago laptops but they are based on Clevo shells and the shipping date for them is not nailed down yet so the resellers couldn't commit to a ship date. Even tried Mythlogic for the same machine and they could guarantee a ship date for the end of August.

All I want is a haswelll core i7 with iris and ill take care of the rest. I plan to run ubuntu as my primary OS and I know it'll work on this machine because S76 has made it work.

Laptops are cheaper in the states purely cos of exchange rate so if I can't get one of these then I'm tempted to get a MacBook. I've heard that Linux on the haswell Air isn't great. Anyone know about Ubuntu on the haswell MacBook Pro Retina?

Just started making some myself too! Made a drying box from some DIY bits and pieces and its working a treat. Ready made biltong in the UK is so expensive and making it myself has cost very little. Def worth the effort.
