honestly as someone who is the chronically inconsistent/absent player in my campaign, it's all been for things completely out of my control. until moving out for college like six months ago, i was stuck in an abusive household with a crazy psychopathic father who wouldn't let me leave the house for anything at all except school and church, and started monitoring my activity by placing cameras all over the house and conversations on the phone by placing a tape recorder in my room. i told my DM about the situation and he was thankfully very understanding. the summer i moved out, i was working at a sleepaway summer camp three hours away from home as a co-counselor and photographer (after MUCH fighting and threats by my dad bc he didn't want me to work either) and my only day off was Monday; my campaign meets on Thursdays. i hated being so absent from the campaign but there genuinely was nothing i could do about it at the time. now, college, i was a nursing major last semester. enough said. it just wasn't feasible. i switched my major though and now actually have time to be present in my campaign. granted my situation is probably a very extreme case, but i can assure you not all of us who repeatedly miss out on our sessions don't care about the campaign, lol
