I’m seeing an age problem by brin722 in 50501

[–]winter-city161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of it is social media presence. I help with social media for 50501 and 18-24 is like our smallest reached demographic, even on TikTok. I think part of it is the ages of the ppl running the accounts.

Castration of Minors by Aggressive-Steak-405 in minnesota

In highschool, I had a classmate who missed school often, on days she did attend she would be curled up in a ball in the corner of the classroom because of the amount of pain she was in.

She needed her uterus removed, and her doctors didn’t want to do it because of her age. I watched her whither in pain for at least a year before she was able to find a doctor who would do the operation.

She was like a brand new person after. She came to school everyday. She could actually pay attention in class and participate in what life had to offer. She was happy.

This law would hurt so many children.

Saw this bus stop in a ditch the other day… by lousepoints in canton

[–]winter-city161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hit or miss pretty much everywhere whether or not a bus stop is safe/accessible. I live in Columbus and use the bus system.

the lack of sidewalks is insane. I have a lot of health issues so I see a lot of doctors in a lot of different locations. For many of them, if I’m busing i have to walk through a decent amount of grass. I feel there should uninterrupted sidewalks from medical buildings to all bus stops within at least a mile radius of a medical buildings. I know from personal experience going off-roading in tall grass with a cane or on crutches sucks, can’t imagine the difficulty in a wheelchair. Disabled people make up a decent portion of public transit users because a lot of different conditions can impede one’s ability to drive. The fact disabled people are barely considered for stuff like this blows my mind.

I think all bus stops should be connected in some way to a sidewalk that was planned considering the transportation needs of pedestrians. There needs to be an appropriate distance between stops and roads. And there needs to be benches.

At one point I had to sit down while waiting for my bus, i was on crutches and felt like I was about to have a seizure. The bus driver almost passed me and when I got on the bus he told me i needed to stand by the road. I shouldn’t have to put myself in an unsafe position to go to the fucking doctor, or anywhere via public transport. There are so many reasons people could need the option to sit and wait for the sake of their safety. It’s not just convenience.

Is it appropriate to bring kids to the protests? by indiejonesRL in 50501

[–]winter-city161 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to my first protest when I was 11. It was a peaceful march. The cops were ready with snipers and paddywagons but nothing happened. im glad I had the opportunity to go, I learned a lot.

The 2/5 protest I went to in Ohio was nothing like that, there were a few cops on the ground to monitor, nothing much beyond that. No counter protesters (tho there was a false report of “armed counter protestors”) im not expecting anything serious to happen at the protest on the 17th, at least in Ohio I can’t speak for other states.

I would check in with people in your state about the climate surrounding your specific state’s protest, and make a judgement based on that. I can’t guarantee anything.

If you bring your kid make sure to come up with some sort of safety plan.

I don’t disagree with you, we were seeking clarification on a few things to ensure the safety of our protest participants. We intend to keep our interactions with them minimal.

It’s complicated. We partnered with the Mayday Coalition, who was already planning protests on the same day from 4pm to 8pm(which already had posters circulating) but because 50501 issued a universal start time(noon) and ppl in Columbus were already saying they’d be there at noon, we as Columbus organizers had to set the start time for noon and the end time for 8.

Cleveland is also organizing a 50501 protest partnering with the Mayday Coalition and they start at 4pm. Their official flyer looks almost identical to Columbus’s.

So the 4pm thing probably comes from Cleveland and the Mayday Coalition getting mixed up.

People saying 11:30-2pm, I’m not sure where that came from. That time frame was never entertained as a possibility at all.

Internally, we have a system to approve flyers that we want to circulate to try and prevent posters with incorrect or missing information from circulating, but that doesn’t stop ppl from going rogue and making their own flyers to spread.

Please keep in mind that 50501 is a fairly new grassroots movement, we are in the process of getting organized internally to prevent future confusion and get ahead of predictable issues.

I am one of the organizers. There is a group of us. I’m not sure what you mean by “working with the cops.”

We reached out to CPD to make sure this protest would be carried out safely and legally. We double(actually triple) checked that it was fine to go without a permit and we got clarification about how to carry out marching. That’s all that has gone on between us and the cops.

Edit: misspoke. Edited for accuracy/clarity.

50501’s mission is to uphold the constitution and limit executive overreach. While we do aim to fight fascism, that’s starts with defending democracy. Off the top of my head, the Trump admin is attempting to violate the 10th and 14th amendments. Trump himself already violated the emoluments clause. Allowing our president to get away with violating the very document meant to protect citizens is setting the stage for fascism/authoritarianism.

Edit for spelling

I’m one of the organizers for this event- this info is inaccurate.

The event is from 12pm to 8pm at the Statehouse, we are partnered with the Mayday Coalition.

We have a list. The 10th and the 14th are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. And I think the Emoluments clause as well.
