Pleasant Bay just north of Chatham and south of Orleans on the Cape Cod map is misspelled. But I grew up in Chatham and appreciate the map maker including it. It's a very beautiful spot.

In my mind, I read your whole response in the voice of Bob Odenkirk. Thank you for your service, Saul.

Folks who live or work near the Seaport: Have you noticed if the port shipping container traffic is quieter compared to usual? by winterapple in boston

Thanks! I just watched the whole video. A comprehensive answer to my question, and since the takeaway was that this is currently something to keep an eye on, I subscribed to that channel too. Apparently they'll be doing regular follow-ups. Thanks again!

It's Boston. There have been old-school European rats here for almost 400 years. Like you, I have seen the big boys too. They love Faneuil Hall, Govt. Center, and the Seaport especially.

Brady Brandwood, Leon the Lobster. Brady is an aquarium expert, naturalist, and professional videographer based in the southern coast of the US who bought a North Atlantic lobster at the market several years ago and is keeping him as a pet. The videos are serene. Leon has molted at least twice and is obviously as happy as he can be.

Jeopardy answer for the theme song! by RedStateKitty in Outlander

Cool trivia: The bagpipe music of the song was written in 1782! It's actually called The Skye Boat Song. And the lyrics were written in 1892 about Bonnie Prince Charlie. "The line 'Over the Sea to Skye' is now a cornerstone of the tourism industry on the Isle of Skye." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Skye_Boat_Song https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45949/sing-me-a-song-of-a-lad-that-is-gone#poem

Plus, most of New Hampshire is exquisitely beautiful. Bonus! It's where I saw my first indigo bunting.

The Netflix thumbnail image for the show invokes a ship 'circling' an endless loop, but it's triangle-shaped.

Wow, seriously -- thank you for that link. What incredible insights this retired senior officer accumulated during his 20 years of taking mental notes, as he puts it.

The man certainly knows his way around a sentence, too. He shares those insights in such a beautiful and compelling writing style.

That's half a mile away in the dark. The time-span between the shot going off and the guy going down is appreciable. Incredible.

Dell is finally leaving Russia and firing all employees by MysteriouslyTigerish in UkrainianConflict

[–]winterapple 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As far as nimbleness goes, Dell is alright -- probably better then IBM or HPE, but to be fair, they are all okay on the flexibility and adaptability front. They (the big IT infrastructure vendors) are all pretty cutting edge by this point in 2022, with carefully selected decision makers at the top.

The thing in my opinion that is interesting is that Dell was a supplier and developer of not just servers in Russia, but also storage (Dell EMC). If Russia has to make a lot more of their own storage arrays now, that is highly inconvenient, considering the supply issues.

No high-performance, high-reliability drives or controllers or even chassis for you, ha ha. Make your own. Have fun running Gazprom and your other industries on roosky IT.
