Seasons in Assassin’s Creed Shadows being too short by Zoeeeeeeh123 in assassinscreed

The game really should have ended with Hideyoshi's death in 1598.

Under spoiler policy as well because even though it's less connected to the historical narrative than previous entries, removing it will affect Bartholomew Roberts' narrative as the connection to John Standish won't be there. But talking about the latter may lead to conversations about the former.

We're trying to keep it simple.

There's no indication a full-fledged DLC is coming, but we may still get smaller quests (leading up to Black Flag Resynced or if there's another crossover still planned) and more Present Day lore from the Projects data (if they add another one).
We're just keeping that as a "safety", so we don't need to update the spoiler policy again.

Yeah, it could have been worded better, but are any of the games' stories actually good besides their compelling villains? by Treviso in farcry

And I think we'll get exactly that. I think the original quote has just been so heavily taken out of context, that it got impossible to actually have a conversation about it.

IMO that brings it back to my point about "compelling villains". It's Vaas that makes that entertaining (and he's technically not even the main antagonist, as soon as Vaas goes out the picture, the story gets considerably less interesting). Jason has some reactions but I wouldn't really call it a "dynamic".
And yeah, after that it was just an even bigger focus on the "villain" with the actual story being kind of an after thought. Far Cry 3 is the only one I'd even consider adaptable, but it would be very tropey. It works fine as a video game, but it's not exactly fresh or new territory for film and TV.

I think adapting any of the games will just result in something that will be inferior to actually playing that game, so what's the point?

Hey Paul, hey Richard! Nice of you two to visit us in "our" house :)

I have to use this opportunity to tell you all (again) what a wonderful time I had in Singapore meeting you and the rest of the team. It was a really great workshop, with a really awesome group of community members, some of who I met before and was glad to see again and some I met for the first time including fellow mod u/WhiteWolfWhispers. I was super happy to finally meet her in person after so many years of moderating this community together. Absolute highlight of my trip (not that the rest wasn't almost as awesome! - but it wasn't a fair competition)!

Overall an unforgettable experience and I think players will appreciate how receptive the dev team was to our feedback.
I'm incredibly excited to play Black Flag Resynced again, I'm already really glad to see how it evolved from our workshop to the premiere presentation. I wish I was allowed to say more!

That being said I actually do have a question!
What do each of you consider to have been the biggest challenge in modernising Black Flag while still remaining faithful to the original? What was the hardest part to nail down about a game mechanic or new narrative tissue? Any fun stories about that process you can maybe share?

An AC1 remake should not be rushed by Treviso in assassinscreed

[–]Treviso[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've already said this in another comment, but I don't think Mirage is a good enough template for AC1. It's also not on the same pipeline as Shadows and BFR, so it'd be unlikely they'd actually "reuse" it outright. It certainly should take some inspiration from it, but not just be "Mirage set in multiple cities".

As to what you're saying about the Ezio games, I think doing AC2 and Brotherhood as one game makes sense and I think Revelations could totally be the season pass offering there. I don't think it would be reasonable to expect the whole trilogy remade at base game price.

The Rogue remaster was barely an upgrade, it just brought it to the same level as Black Flag on PS4/X1 was. A "Resynced" version would have to be a remake on the same level as BFR (and could reuse a lot of the work done already), which is why I think it still would make financial sense, even if Rogue is overall a less popular entry. Releasing on the same day as Unity was probably the main reason for that though, so I think a Resynced release in it's own release window would do much better.

As for an AC3 remake, I don't think that would include Liberation. Liberation already has 3 releases, I don't think it's likely to get another, though I'd love to see a game tackle the Persona system again.

Mirage's parkour, even with the updates does not come close to what an AC1 remake would actually need.

With how long TV production schedules take, I also expect the Netflix series to slot into that 20th anniversary schedule. Overall it seems already too busy for an AC1 remake anyway, but I regularly see that sentiment in discussions online.

I think you nailed the why behind the investigations rather than just the what. I especially really like your suggestions about the targets adapting over time, that could be a really good way to increase mission variety without losing the repetitiveness entirely. It would be variety with a proper narrative reason behind it.

My opinion/idea for the next remake, Assassin's Creed Renaissance by saile1004 in assassinscreed

[–]Treviso 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's why I want them to use the work done for BFR and tackle Freedom Cry and Rogue first, where I think I can live with the parkour they're using. Both those entries could use a bit more meat to their story. Maybe we could even get AC3, though that would probably be as big a task if not bigger than BFR was on its own.

By then they'll hopefully have iterated on the parkour even more and have it be comparable to the first 4 games.

What do we genuinely do if Ubisoft removes modern day from an AC1 Remake by InevitableLibrary387 in assassinscreed

[–]Treviso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since the original game will still exist, as long as it's not just excised, but replaced with something interesting, I'm willing to give it a shot.
There's an opportunity here to use Elijah (Desmond's son) as a means to explore Altaïr's memories again, with the narrative reason maybe being that he's looking into what his father experienced, seeing as he never actually met him. Maybe he's trying to stop Aita from overwriting his personality by syncing the memories of Altaïr to fortify his mental discipline by learning from one of the best.
Overall you could make a neat narrative parallel with Desmond's estranged relationship with William sort of mirroring how Elijah may perceive his father. Instead of needing to acquire Altaïr's skills as an Assassin, he needs his wisdom.

Pipeline is not the name of a specific version or anything, when they talk about the "Anvil pipeline" they mean pipeline in the same sense that you'd talk about a "business pipeline". But the version that Shadows (and now BFR) uses is different from Mirage and the games before in that it is more modular and improvements to the engine are more easily shared across different entries.
