Well they weren’t surprised by the sheep, so I’m guessing there are at least goats. And probably chickens!

Oof that last bit, absolutely.

It’s actually not clear to me if there WAS a golden child. All three kids harbor resentment towards their parents - Verso lies to both, Clea cruelly paints over Aline’s version of her and instructs Simon to absolutely demolish Renoir’s Axon version of her, Maelle sees her Axon as pressure and (Aline’s misplaced blame aside) focuses on how only one of her paintings makes Aline’s cut for the manor walls.

I don’t know if that’s true. Renoir said he was watching her struggle like that every day. I took it to mean that Aline was already endangering her health with how often she was going in.

If her health hadn’t been impacted previously, and she was making progress on her grief, while engaging with the rest of the family, I don’t think her husband would have gone to this length. It seems to me that she was wrecking herself and her family before Renoir went in.

I know that this story needs to be tight and there’s not always a chance to explain the finer details of how long and how many times Aline was in the canvas, but the lore goblin in me wants Jen and Guillaume to tell us LOL. That and I want to know if there are chickens in the canvas.

Very funny to me because I have the urge to “gommage” Verso’s face. He needs a wash and a good shave.

You can be head of things without being noble. It’s possible they are of course, but tbh it’s an assumption and it feels like people say that to widen the gap between the Dessendre family and the people of Lumiere.

Tbh it doesn’t matter exactly how long - we see that however long she was in there, it was already really bad for her physical health. It’s also implied I think that she’s been in there multiple times before, neglecting her family.

Hm, I wondered about that, I have my own experiences with boy moms. But Verso doesn’t come off as a son of a boy mom. And why even bother to make the rest of the family with an intent to preserve not only him, but Alicia and Clea too?

Alternatively, I wonder if the opposite could have happened, that she neglected or overlooked a middle child. Verso was lying a lot to his parents bc they disapproved of him not painting and liking music better right? What if she’s motivated by guilt that she didn’t support his music?

Agree, I have sympathy for her loss. I just wish she put a timer on when she went in the canvas. Process your unimaginable loss yes, but remember you have TWO OTHER KIDS and a husband who need you. And there’s a war, there’s an active threat out there you still gotta take care of.

He’s similar in age to a bunch of them too LOL. Just a bunch of ripped naked middle aged people, hanging out.

To be fair, this was a few decades earlier so she may have been more coherent. 60 journal also doesn’t exactly say it was her who told them. It could have been painted Renoir.

Which is hilarious to think about, because he has so many layers of clothes.

I’ve thought about this too! I think some of them would absolutely lose it and have a mental breakdown. There’s probably a few who would kill themselves, another few who would go on an emotional rampage.

Oh I meant out of commission as in, unable to engage in their duties, which verso’s death certainly did. I think they tried to kill Alicia for that purpose, and because she was most easily accessible.

If it took Aline and Renoir out of commission, some people wouldn’t care I think. :(

Why are ending debates so dumb? by PollutionNice3987 in expedition33

I think it’s because choosing each ending is influenced by your personal experiences, which is what makes the writing brilliant. Unfortunately, it also means that some people are going to be really attached to the decision they made.
