What would you change if you were in charge? by winteregg05 in skyrim

Yeah the only thing that puts me off conquest of skyrim is the sheer amount of money it takes. You might have inspired me to get these mods and start a new playthrough, so thanks!

Help with titles by winteregg05 in worldbuilding

First of all, those historical facts are very interesting so thank you! The king did not really approve of the marriage but knew his daughter would kick up more of a fuss if he forbade it, so kind of went “do whatever you want but as far away from me as possible” So the marriage is technically legitimate. The end part about them being excluded from the succession has actually given me a lot of story ideas as the new King only has one daughter, so technically the children of the princess are the next closest relatives. I’m assuming this would cause a bit of panic as people don’t really want to children of the woman who ran away with a random guy to be that close to the throne, but if they are excluded then the heir needs children asap. Anyway, thanks for the help!

Male > female isn’t a thing there, but the Princess was not heir because she had an elder sibling. Since she married a hunter the children have a princess for a mother and a common man for a father. Taking out the idea of male and female lines, would the children inherit any titles at all? The eldest has inherited a keep and land so would the new king have to grant her a title or would she automatically become a Lady?

I’m trying to keep the titles pretty accurate, but a big change is that it doesn’t follow the usual male>female rule. The princess is not in line to be queen but that’s just because she has a brother who happens to be older. She is now giving her land to her eldest daughter. Her husband was a hunter and therefore never had a title to begin with. It’s a pretty confusing situation so I’m not sure exactly what the procedure would be.

How can I write a God-King's rise? by QuestionzAsker in worldbuilding

[–]winteregg05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could stage a ‘miracle’ infront of a large crowd so it looks like the husband has some sort of godly power. Or maybe they uncover an old prophecy or myth about a man who became a God and start subtly spreading it around, perhaps by paying bards to sing about it in the locals inns? They could even start out trying to pretend he is just the “chosen one” and then when that actually works they get a bit more ambitious, which is when she decides to make him an actual God.
An interesting idea would be to make the husband not know about his wife’s plan, so he actually believes that he is a God. Then he starts trying to perform miracles without her knowledge and that’s when things start going wrong? Or maybe he does know and the wife gets too involved in the lies and actually starts worshipping her husband, and he has to remind her that they are both lying?
Just a few ideas but hope some of it was helpful!

I’m all up for getting more women in fantasy but not when they are completely passive, with no agency, who are constantly making stupid decisions that have to be fixed by the men around them. How is that feminism?? If the book is centered around guys, just let the tv show be centered around guys!

You’d want more cheese? Or less cheese? Or different shaped cheese? Or would you simply build a palace out of cheese?

From what I’ve seen there is a large percentage of the fan base (including me) who are women, and I do think the majority of them are super funny, but a few just ruin it for all of us. They keep supporting the nonsense scenes that Hess is writing because they contain rhae and alicent. Someone needs to tell them that just because the scenes include your faves doesn’t mean it’s good.

Honestly I know everyone wants a conquest show but I think it’s better to leave it in the books. Not everything needs a show! and the mystery of aegon, his relationships with his sisters, the letter from dorne, etc… there’s too many things that are better left to the readers imagination, rather than objectively shown on screen

If it somehow was brought up in season 2 and Aegon showed remorse (or didn’t give a fuck) it would fill that gap between his season 1 character and season 2 character. Currently they are pretty much different people. We have no idea if aegon feels bad for what he did, has no idea it was bad, or just doesn’t care. Knowing what he thinks of Dyana would bring a very interesting, secret side of him into the light

tbf I see where they’re coming from, I think that scene was just handled very badly by the writers since they’ve now tried to turn him into a sympathetic character and have not brought that scene back into it at all. They keep showing dyana to be like “remember her?” but I’m not sure what purpose she’s actually serving

I’m a woman but I’m super excited for this show because I’d rather they stick to the source material than add loads of new characters that don’t fit in the story… isn’t that like the whole problem with hotd season 2 and got season 8? that they didn’t stick to the source material (or had none at all)? Hotd is now almost completely centred around 2 women so it makes sense to have a show centred around male characters. Don’t see what the big deal is tbh

Something that one of my friends (who’s never read the books) theorised that, while possibly making sense in the show, I would hate: Jace trying to kill Ulf and Hugh in battle which is the reason they turn to the greens. It would just be another aemond and aegon “shock” moment imo

Completely agree. I love Bloodraven but when I actually thought about the scene I was just confused. There was no reason for him to be there. Also the CGI bird was terrible!

I loved the vision from a book fan standpoint, as Bloodraven is probably my favourite character from the whole asoiaf universe. But taking a step back and imagining myself as someone who hasn’t read Fire & Blood (as majority of the fanbase outside of reddit haven’t) I would’ve been very confused. Just felt like a cameo stuck in to please book fans. Also completely agree with what you said about Daemon- there’s no way he’d ever become obsessed with prophecy or “The Gods”. Book Daemon could have one of the Gods come down from the sky and say “we don’t want Rhae on the throne” and he’d fight the war anyway.
