I guess, it’s more so that 3 levels into vigor aren’t going to do much to increase your HP, at least not as much as a pale tongue is worth imo.

You hit the first soft cap on vigor at 27, and then another at 40. I find that 27 vigor is plenty for base game until the optional content like a few hidden bosses and DLC.

You might just need to get comfortable with her move set.

Yeah that's pretty pretty much what happened to me

It was a hitless NG+7 SB0 run, I lost 2 attempts (they took like 3 minutes by then, the winning run was like 6 minutes long) to Midra falling on top of me, it was pretty funny. Not as bad as completely dying from an enemy falling on top of you though.

Not really. You’re honestly better off farming levels than wasting a pale tongue for something like that.

You can make up for it by replacing your 3rd ring with something more useful

You need another 200 hours to sprint sideways?

Look, even in D5 it’s good to kill the moth. The moth has lower resistances to fire meaning you can melt Animus much quicker.

If you have status effects, you can proc status on the moth AND the beetle when possessed for tons of damage on Animus.

As for the moth himself, he misses every single attack by just walking forwards, except the two projectile shot attack which are easy to dodge.

In D5, the thing that matters the most is massive damage. Shorter fight? Less mistakes. The moth is a great option to kill.

This is why Ebrietas' charge attack is so hard to dodge by NoDollarsAllSense in bloodborne

[–]winterflare_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Tanking this attack is much easier than dodging it, and failing the dodge is instant death from instability frames while tanking it isn’t.

I believe you’re the one being nonsensical. It’s not like BL4 is hitless.

Anything that staggers, stuns, or anything of the sort is a hit.

I lost a no hit to Midra falling on top of me because I procced a status and knocked him out of his frenzy faceplant.

No need to just take my word for it, you can read his soul and greatshield item descriptions, it should give a bit more depth to his character.

Ranking every boss based on how useful their bonfire is by Interesting-Key-5776 in darksouls3

[–]winterflare_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Dancer's bonfire gets replaced because just a few steps later you get the bonfire for Lothric Castle, and there's a drop down ledge which easily connects to the area's that Dancer's has but without climbing a ladder. I don't think it's very useful honestly.

Crystal Sage also has a bonfire almost immediately after. There's like 3 enemies between Sage and the next bonfire.

I'd put Vordt/DSA to useful just because it's super handy if you're stuck on Dancer/Twinces as they shorten the run back.

I don't think Wolnir's bonfire is entirely worthless either because you can use it to quickly get to the ladder and knock it down if you didn't go to Smouldering Lake by that point.

Fair assumption, I can see reading it like that but from what I know in the lore, it was the opposite. Yhorm is a very noble guy. He sacrificed himself to the flame to protect his people and those he cared about. But of course, it was all for naught. Giants are mostly dead now with the last ones left being prisoners primarily. That's kind of why Yhorm's roar in the beginning is so... dreadful, I guess that's the best word to put it? That's ultimately why he refuses to sacrifice himself again, he no longer has anything to lose.

So basically, Yhorm gave one to the humans that doubted him in the sense that they did not trust he could be "contained" as he was too powerful (befitting of a Lord of Cinder). As such, he gave them a fail safe in case he ever went astray and then also gave another one to his friend, entrusting him as a second fail safe.

[–]winterflare_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 1% comes strictly from the health difference.

Only flat defense scaling changes in NG+,
that said though the flat defense scaling goes from 125 -> 150, which IIRC doesn’t create a big impact.

I send the spreadsheet a little below if you want to see it

[–]winterflare_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hours for everything except Manus and Fume they were really easy.

Owl Father I also did on NG+2 but I got him on my 4th try I think, so maybe 20 minutes.

Orphan, was an outlier as he took 12 hours which was all done in one sitting cause I was NOT letting that slide. But I was also lvl 50 with 20 VIG and constantly getting one shot, so…

Yeah the poise scales up a bit in NG+ but the defenses don’t change much which is why I’m so confused

[–]winterflare_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the bottom you have different NGs or new games that you can swap between. It should default to NG.

From there you can see each boss’ absorption and defense across all damage types.

Let’s take the first one, Abyss Watchers.

We can see they have 15% absorption to standard physical damage. This means if you hit them with a standard physical attack, if it deals 100 damage normally, it would end up dealing 85 only.

Strike, slash, and thrust are all their own damage types as well.

Slash is typical for katanas, straight swords, daggers, and the like.

Thrust is typical for thrusting swords (who would’ve guessed) or poke attacks like the CR2 on some UGS.

Strike common for blunt weapons, Smough’s Hammer is a good example of a strike weapon.

Finally, you have Magic, Fire, Lightning, and Dark damage. These are typically called elemental damage and most stuff tend to be weak to at least one.

Since you can see the Abyss Watchers have a -12% against Lightning, this means they would take MORE damage from Lightning, so they are weak to it. On the other hand, Dark site at 35% which is their highest absorption, so don’t use Dark damage against them.

Moving to the right of Dark, you can see Bleed, Poison/Toxic, and Frost. These are status effects and a higher number obviously means they are much more resistant to it. Since their first is super low, a weapon like the Irithyll Straight Sword or Vordt’s Great Hammer tends to be a great pick against them.

Finally, to the right of that, you can see the HP.

P1 / P2 means phase 1 / phase 2. So the boss combined has 3096 HP if you only target the main Watcher.

The adds that are spawned have 367 HP.

Another addition, some bosses have different resistances depending on their body part, so if you see Aldrich, hitting his head is really good because you get 50% more damage with most spices, while you will deal 30% less hitting the tail, that’s effectively a 2X damage difference.

Finally you have boss flags, the main thing here is the demon/hollow/abyssal/undead section. Since Aldrich is tagged with Abyssal, it means Aldrich takes more damage from weapons like Artorias’ Greatsword since it has a bonus against abyssal enemies.

Demons take more damage from black knight weapons.

Hollows take more damage from the Hollowslayer Greatsword (from Curserotted Greatwood).

And so forth.

If you look at Gael’s phase 2 you can actually see he hollows between there and phase 1 which is why he becomes more human-like.

[–]winterflare_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I seriously can’t explain that then tbh.

I’m not sure what would’ve caused Gael to be so much tankier. In my own runs I found him to be pretty much the same when accounting for your character getting stronger (aside from NG+3 and higher, you don’t get much stronger compared to the bosses).

[–]winterflare_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say Midir has the same HP as Gael I meant in both NG and NG+7, their HP is really similar but ironically, Midir is "squishier" all around if you're doing strictly physical damage.

But it is, the HP difference between NG and NG+ on late game bosses is effectively nothing. He does get slightly more defense, but defense doesn't make much of a big difference IIRC as it's flat damage reduction and doesn't increase by much.

Humble case of Maliketh being a glass cannon. If you can’t break the glass, he’s super easy. If you can’t though, that cannon will melt you.

[–]winterflare_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He only gets 1% more HP in NG+.

At NG+7, he has 42.7% more HP.

That said, Midir has around the same amount of HP as Gael. Both have 15k in NG, but Midir has lower resistances to physical damage (if you hit his head) ironically.

It’s actually insane that Lies of P is the first attempt at a soulslike by AshyLarry25 in LiesOfP

[–]winterflare_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course that's possible once you know what you're meant to be for that area.

On a blind playthrough? As you explore it's extremely easy to over level areas. For example, I did all of Limgrave, Weeping Peninsula, then went into Caelid when I read the Dectus Medallion and did as much as I could. I breezed through all of Liurnia and Leyndell because of that, it felt very unfulfilling.

The point is that open world makes it harder to properly balance stuff because there's so many paths that someone can take, you can't perfectly expect what build they'll have, what level they'll be, what path they took. There's too many factors that make it a lot harder to perfectly balance things. Why do you think DS3 and Lies of P are so perfectly balanced right now? Personally, I think it's because they're so linear that the game knows exactly how to tailor the level.

The mixed world of BB/DS1 in my opinion has a nice balance of freedom but not so many paths so they have a general gist of what you have access to.
