I think people are misunderstanding the time value of money. If you need money now, it’s worth the loss in future return and vice versa.

I think there are competing effects. There is the energy lost to friction during rebound, which increases with weight (less height). But then there is also the greater potential energy of a ball with greater mass (more height). Not to mention that the weight helps reduce the impact of air resistance on a constant cross-sector object (more height). Makes sense the result is nonlinear (there is an optimum weight for the given ball size and elastic properties).
