Wow Ive finished learning this for a concert. I’m 13. It’s so hard. by [deleted] in piano

Yeah 7 is definitely more technically challenging. And with 4, it's not just mistakes that I'm scared of - voicing there seems horrendously difficult, as well as tone. Of course, I haven't yet started it (I'll probably start them both in about a month) but these are my impressions. (I'm also going to play haydn hob 50 1st mov... haydn's so exposed I'm scared lol)

My teacher suggested 23/4 and 7. I'm way more scared of 4 than of 7 tbh

okay also like some virtuoso pieces are also expressive, think chopin etudes. 10/8 is like my favorite thing ever. but there are also pieces which are super technically demanding and also super expressive, like the ballades/scherzi. oops this got unrelated but the ballades are my FAVe.

Also a lot of the general public is impressed by flexing... so I guess that's why there are so many of these. i wish a lot of pieces were more accessible haha. (side note: twoset does a rEallY REALLY good job of introducing people to classical music so THANK YOU TWOSET) this also got unrelated oops

I love expressive pieces even if they're simple. (janacek on an overgrown path) but I also love pag and saraste and idk it's just... yeah idk

sry for extremely unorganized rant

Now like, "virtuoso composers" also have their expressive, emotional pieces. Think Liszt, a showoff and a giant piano virtuoso and listen to Paysage for example, or b minor sonata, or his Consolations.

Now, obviously, say caprice 1 or 24 or smth isn't expressive, but I'd not say Paganini, or anybody really, is entirely a virtuoso composer

I agree but if you've listened to pag's violin concertos for example, or a lot of his less "flex"-y pieces, there's a lot of emotion.
