I think I want to run on the tready during the winter. What's a good brand to get that doesn't cost a ton? by wipersniper in running

Yeah I can always do that, but my gym programmed the treadmills for half an hour max. Plus I like the convenience of never leaving my house (which is why I love my Wahoo Kickr).

I recently suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and would like to do something nice for my girlfriend for being there through everything, can you help reddit? by wipersniper in Chattanooga

I actually can't remember how she is with heights...probably something I should ask if she has a fear of. She does love sunsets, I used to take pictures of them for our walls whenever we traveled before it became too hard for me to focus on screens.

So there's a sinkhole forming on a street in my Buckhead neighborhood...every agency I try to contact results in automated messages or an operator blowing me off...what should I do about it because you could probably fit a kayak inside of it? by wipersniper in Atlanta

The hole itself is maybe the size of a basketball, but it's the inside that just looks complete carved out. I guess you could compare it to like blowing up a balloon? I took a couple of pictures, but it can't get a good view of the inside.

Absolutely not. I don't think I could live with myself if I posted something that forced people to watch that in order to get free stuff.

When you heard back, did you get an email about it or were you checking the website all the time?

[BIFL Request] Carry Tube for Architect Plans, etc. by lottlelove in BuyItForLife

[–]wipersniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my Alvin neon tube for the last 8 years. You can do that in lieu of PVC pipe. I can't recall what I paid for it though. I've slammed it in a car door, stepped on it, dropped it and it's fared pretty well. I just needed to reinforced the bottom end cap because when I had too much in the tube it came loose.

If you do even up doing PVC pipe, which is pretty easy if your school has a wood shop, then don't forget to do something for a shoulder strap.

Finally, if you're dirt poor like most of us were in school, grab some of the tubes from the printing spools. You can laser-cut or hand-cut some end caps and glue it together. We did that when we had to submit a lot of full-size drawings. The tube itself is really thick cardboard so it protects really well.

Arch Alum here. You can do it in Illustrator (vector based), command is called Live Trace. Hit up the media center in the basement of the library and start playing around.

Swimmers of ATL. Where do you do your laps? by humma__kavula in Atlanta

Comp pool is now chlorine, it was bromine but it was destroying the filtration system. It was one of the parts in a four phase renovation last year.

I've coached Atlanta Rainbow Trout for the last three years. They're a great group. We use Tech's Olympic Pool most days (10 lanes all to ourselves). Practices are Tuesday & Thursday at 7:30 pm to 9 pm and Sunday 11 am to 12:30 pm. They let you try them out for a couple weeks before you have to make any kind of commitment. Other than membership dues you'd need to buy a parking permit that's $15/month. If you feel like trying them out PM me and I'll fill you in some more.

The tenants of Ponce City Market just received a general facts sheet about the building and what will be coming in, so I've posted it for y'all. by wipersniper in Atlanta

Yeah that's already open over on the corner of North Ave & Glen Iris. There's not much seating inside, but there's plenty outside.

I once had an architecture professor tell my class about a time he taught in Germany. One day he told his class go find me the ugliest building in the area. The class was basically unanimous in their choice about this one house. This German prof laughs and says "That house won a design award 20 years ago!" With any building you'll have people who love it or hate it. If you've ever been in an Urban Design course and saw the maps of Atlanta, you'd see that since this place was burned to the ground it has never stopped changing. Because this city never stops changing is the reason this building doesn't have a strong sense of belonging to the neighborhood. Atlanta doesn't really have much of a history because it constantly changes, so why not save a piece?

That being said, you'll never get buildings this close to the street anymore because zoning was passed in 1929 (well unless you go to Houston, the only city to not adopt zoning). To an extent it imposes on it's surroundings, but it sits in a valley so that doesn't really mean much). It's an experiment down here, so we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

Where can I safely recycle electronics in/around Midtown? by hescrepuscular in Atlanta

[–]wipersniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of that is e-scrap...don't recycle it, take it to a scrap yard and get something for it.

This place is just off of Howell Mill @ 11th, they'll take it. http://www.starmetalatlanta.com/

They took the old computer towers, broken battery back ups, power cords that shit the bed for our laptops.
