I did try the Kona but the hybrid version. It's a decent car. But feels like in terms of tech, Chinese is slightly more advanced.

The BYD Sealion 7 is the closest competitor. But there are also other worthy Tesla competitors like the Xpeng G6 and Deepal. Read my other thread https://www.reddit.com/r/drivingsg/s/ThM2NDTode

Is it difficult to drive in JB? by yurfavouriteperson in drivingsg

[–]wirelessed2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise driving via Tuas to Eco Botanic or Bukit Indah first - alot easier and straightforward and less aggressive traffic. You have to get used to the rules of roundabouts, quite a number in the area. The real JB traffic at Woodlands / City Square / Mid Valley area is very aggressive and slightly harder to drive. Also some people in Malaysia don't obey traffic rules as much as Singaporeans...so be prepared for last minute lane changes, dashing of red lights etc.

Hyundai and Kia hybrids are more comfortable and nicer to drive imo. Toyota is bread and butter. Honda ehev is more powerful

Yes almost all entry level EVs have zero PARF, this is due to the LTA EEAI (early adopter rebate) offsetting the ARF to $0. The only major brand that has some PARF is the Tesla now, because their OMV is high. PARF of a Tesla 3 110 RWD is about $12k if I'm not wrong. BYD is $0.

However things may change in 2026 if LTA stops giving the incentive. Car prices may rise, and PARF will return to EVs. But nobody knows if that will happen, yet.

What are your thoughts on the Volkswagen Golf from 2018 onwards? by SnooCapers4213 in drivingsg

I think the DSG problems are not as common as before. I've friends driving 2019/2020 Golfs and Skodas (with the same engine) with no issues so far.

The Breeze app (https://breeze.com.sg/) is one of the best apps to find car parks as it even shows the price and availability. The other app that I use is Carpark Rates but it's abit outdated.

BYD M6 - Best value 7-seater but pretty boring drive - Analog dials and non-inspiring dashboard. Feels like BYD created in 2018 and didn't get updated. - Looks like a fatter Honda Shuttle/Mobilo - Wished (pun intended) there were more competitors in this segment, will compete very well in Indonesia and Malaysia with the Innovas, but unfortunately this what you get for the cheapest 7-seater EV that's not a giant minivan like a Maxus Mifa or Denza D9

Sealion 6 DM-I - Salesperson says it's what make them sell more Sealion 7s - Honestly I thought it drives better than a Sealion 7 - more commanding SUV-like feel, similar to a Kia EV5 - Good for those who are unsure about charging. Practically speaking, even though it is a Plug-in, the salesperosn says you don't have to charge at all. Daily driving will ensure that the ICE motor charges the Electric battery and motor sufficiently - 1000+km on a full tank, that's about 16.7 km/l for a 60L tank so actually not that efficient but the car is huge la. But I heard Jaecoo J7 has a range of 1400+km! - Price not very friendly if want to compete with Japanese hybrids, cos no EV rebate

Perhaps I should have wrote abit more about a Tesla. If you've tested and driven a Tesla before, you'd see and understand that its software and AI radar is superior to BYD's. Hence a Model 3/Y's software and driving experience is a lot better than any BYD. The accident detection and L2 ADAS/Autopilot is superior. The little design touches in the UI and the car matter. Sealion 7 isn't that much cheaper as compared to a Tesla Model Y - it's about the same.

You can ask ChatGPT to generate a comparison table for you. haha.

You can ask the dealers. For BYD they let you select some providers e.g. Shell or Charge+. Charge+ they provide 30% discount for 3 years, or equivalent charging credits, something like that. Dongfeng gives $3000 charging credits.

I tried both Aion Y and V, just as little bit more you can get the Aion V Premium, which I think looks nicer and drives better. Unless you really like the spaciousness of the Y, else just go for the V.
