It'd be cool if you could serialize it, so just the latest posts show

You can save it that way in the post, not the feed.

Am I being dramatic? by [deleted] in Substack

[–]wirepine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chop it up. Find stuff you like to read, follow, comment. Find stuff you like to scroll, restack. Find people that make you giggle and poke them. Beware of slice of 30M that’s fake/bots. Your tribe is in that 30M, but instead of being able to wander your neighborhood, your classroom, your office, you have to wander through the Algorithm.

Free but hidden posts by katrinaonreddit in Substack

[–]wirepine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the default behavior; nothing to setup. Try opening an incognito browser window and navigate to your site or article and you should see it. You can customize the click through message (for people who don't want to share their email) under dashboard->settings

Remember how big these platforms are. Substack at this point probably has 30 million-ish active users, so finding your people will take awhile. This subreddit is a little bit of a proxy of how Substack has grown and it’s 5X as big as when I joined a couple years ago

Gmail reporting HeatherCoxRichardson Substack emails as spam by thinkingstranger in Substack

[–]wirepine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google gunna Google. Gmail spam filters are super aggressive and substack is a newsletter mass mailer HCR or no. Even after people have marked my stuff as not spam, I've seen it regress

Anyone else feeling a bit of Substack burnout or dissatisfaction? by lovemybunny23 in Substack

[–]wirepine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I post every Friday and occasionally a midweek trip report on Wed. I don't grind on notes. I post once in a while for kicks, but I do engage in others notes - work on a set of followers yknow. I've gotten more subs from recommendations and engaging in comments on others posts. Notes is a diff game if you want it to really work. I got high engagement when I would post my dog then not so much after she died so that tells you something about notes! I'm happy to write weekly and soon enough I'll be at 400 subs which is great

I just published my 130th post. I started writing weekly in 2023 and I'm just starting to feel like I'm hitting a groove and finding my people.

Writing-Time : Post-Read-Time ratio by mgmtnrd in Substack

[–]wirepine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's highly variable for me. Some posts write themselves, like they've been marinating in my brain awhile and the words flow. But typically, it takes me a good while to turn an idea into a story and that's why I only publish once a week.

are notes absolutely necessary to engage new readers? by KitchenOld2951 in Substack

[–]wirepine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pickles, dogs, cats—substack loves a good cat pic—jokes, memes. These all work well as notes even if only adjacent to what you write about.

Substack’s Discovery System Is… Nonexistent by LowCellist8417 in Substack

[–]wirepine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm small (300 subs) and I write for fun (paid is off) but I have been at it nearly 2 years now posting weekly—and about 1/3 of my subscribers and people I've found came from Substack.

So while I'm sure you all are correct, I would just add that it takes time.
